That was the claimed unit cost in the latest batch ordered. Of course, we don’t know any details or what was included in the sale, so looking it at “per-unit” is perhaps inaccurate.

it most likely includes modifications for brahmos carriage and a new package of improved R-77’s.

No it won’t be the Python V is set to be the future SRAAM as well. Israelis winning big in the LCA, Elta 2032 derived MMR, Python V in later batches instead of R 73E and Derby in BVR.

do you understand the difference between a signal processing backend and ‘derived’ ?

using a hyundai’s batteries in a honda car won’t make it ‘derived’ from hyundai.

^^ IAF has actually asked for a permission from GOI to expand to 45 fighter squadrons, up from its current 39.5, which, in all likelihood will be granted.
why the 0.5 ? don’t ask, no one knows. I guess it’s the TACDE(IAF equivalent of topgun school) holdings.

oh I believed it by the time I wrote the earlier post. nowhere does it say that derby will be the ‘only’ LCA AAM. in fact it makes sense, if they are mating the NLCA to derby (since IN already operates the derby) then they’ll do the same to the AF version as well. of course the russians created major problems with releasing r-73 interface info and IAF/DRDO might not want to run the same course again with r-77 integration.
the Mk1 might stay with derby only but it’s impossible they will restrict the Mk2’s potential with a 50 km missile. of course astra would be ready then as well.

give it a rest dude since when we only take offical MoD releases as serious. MRCA order will will grown in size and this is a fact.

I will bet my house on it that LCA will be ordered atleast 50nos less than the total MRCA. 😉

I’ll give it a rest when it actually happens, not just in your dreams. 😀

till then I’ll object every time you try to present your personal wishes as fact. 😉

Some people were saying only ‘naval LCA’ will get Derby. Still think LCA armed with Derby can have a fair fight with F 16 Block 50/52+ armed with AMRAAM C-5 ?

Tejas to be fitted with Israeli Derby missile

nowhere does it say that the R-77 or the mica/meteor (the first is certain and the later is very likely to end up in IAF inventory) won’t be integrated as well. hold your horses.

PAF did pay for the F-16’s, they were not donated…but the generous military assistance from the US made them affordable.

    a pedantic difference.

Does it not bother India that Russia sold a advanced SU-30 version to China? Still you keep ordering more SU-30. Seems inconsistent to me.

the big difference is russia SOLD those su-30’s. US donated the F-16’s free of cost.

also, the MKK’s were inferior to MKI’s in quite a few crucial parameters.

the only thing inconsistent here is your reluctance to acknowledge this simple difference. 😉

    Can’t Resist.

    Boom and Others.

    I told you so :diablo:

260 fighters should also mean a better chance for cheaper competitors or split orders.

you do realise this proves nothing whatsoever ?
so, after flightglobal deccan herald is you new choice as India’s MOD spokesperson ? 😀 :p

do understand the difference between news and kite flying.

of course, my prediction was that both LCA and MRCA will see more than their current orders.

When China stops operating MiG-21 copies and T-55 knock offs, maybe we can talk…..

    …… about the su-27 copies and the kilo knock-offs ? 😀

    TR1, he must be a past-master at that. 😀

Loke, a flanker with it’s massively powered radars is almost sure to get first look and hence shot, which is a major advantage in aerial combat. it can also pad out its quiver with a decent choice of EW equipment, again backed by the huge amount of available onboard power. and then if the grip comes into the merge, should I go on …… ? :p

as for MRCA, it has taken on a life of its own, at this juncture it really doesn’t make a lot of sense. also, I said LCA Mk2 ~ Grip NG, not rafale, eurofighter or the others. 😉
    get my point ?

SGW06, china’s military budget is accurately estimated to be around 2.5 % of GDP, if not more.

First, NG will be able to handle any flanker or J10. Tejas is simply not in the same league.

    that
, my friend is not fact but a personal opinion, a very biased one as well I might add.

even after page after page of info/facts/numbers have been fed to you that there’s not much to chose between tejas Mk2 and gripen NG, you still repeat the same thing like a broken record.

scooter would be proud of your performance :p

the only differentiator I see is the meteor, which can be mated to the LCA as well if required. otherwise there’s no way in hell the grip can take on a flanker, esp the newer varieties.

derby is only for LCA navy and C5> R-77 is arguable.

the block 50 also has a lot of flab for that excess weight and is significantly sluggish than the earlier sports car falcons. LCA’s STR would be nothing less then phenomenal unless laws of physics are changed for it, faaar higher than F-16. just compare the wing loadings. 😉

Also LCA vs Block 52+/J 10 B will be quite unfavourable for the Indian jet.

    in what way ?
