I can access the forum just fine.

there’s a reason why GOI doesn’t push SL too much over this. it’s because the fishermen are moving into lankan waters in spite of repeated requests from the authorities.
yes I know it says Indian waters, that’s what they would say anyway. not that this justifies the SLN action.
Again.. you’re making claims left right and centre with practically no knowledge about the conflict, its terrain or topography.
How do you know that the ‘man sitting at mountain top’ is at an altitude of max 10000ft?
because he has never seen anything taller than a few hundred feet. 20,000 feet high mountain ranges are beyond his imagination.
LSP-7 first flight completed as per a HAL engineer at BR.
utter waste of time to make a thread out of an off-the-cuff statement from a rather average report.
I’m sure if they wanted the Su-30MKI’s to be reliable they could turn the project for modernizing them over to their friends in France and Israel. Wait a minute, they already did that. I guess they are S-O-L making it any more reliable… or maybe its nothing to do with the Su-30MKI itself.
Until the Indians park them inside hangars and keep them out of the elements when they are doing maintenance, it’s a little difficult for the Russians to accept the blame with their lack of reliability. The Russians told them to build hangars and they still have not done that.
what the heck are you talking about anyway ? who said anything about mki’s not being reliable other than this abou whatever fellow ?
the mki’s anyway have better reliability than the F-22, going by past record.
SH also had trouble in desert trials.

The numbers involved in a real fight was still limited and not up to the political show of force about that. The main problem of the IAF and the ground-forces was the terrain and to deal with the Stinger-threat for all supporting aircraft/helicopters. In some years from now the Rafale will be a better A2G tool for such a task.
a limited war is not same as a border skirmish. you need some serious reading to do.
Navy’s fighters will be busy shooing MPAs away from the surface fleet, not “taking care of” full squadrons of land-based fighters.
I suppose the PAF would just give up the 10 odd MPA’s as a bad job and stay put. moreover, it is likely that navy would actively target karachi in case of war, not wait for MPA’s to appear so that they can shoo those away.
the journalist of the der speigel piece, who is of pakistani origin, was refused journalist visa by GOI after a particularly pro-terror article on the 26/11 mumbai attacks.
I didn’t miss it- they belong to the IN, not the IAF. Of course, in a real war scenario, the MiG-29Ks and the N-LCAs will factor in as well. And considering the numbers that the IN has on order or plans to order (45 MiG-29Ks and 40+ N-LCAs if it is proven), they are a substantial number as well, but they will be used for fleet air defence as well as attacks on Pakistani forces/installations.
As regards AWACS, the IAF will have around 6 A-50Ei and 6+ EMB-145 based AEWACS whereas the PAF will have Erieyes and the Chinese AWACS..so both sides will have AWACS and here the IAF doesn’t yet have a decisive edge. They need more AWACS for sure, as they refuellers.
navy’s fighters will also be tasked to take care of the PAF mirage squadrons seconded for maritime duty, which are based out of karachi IIRC.
It seems alot of the ‘indigenous’ indian programmes require significant levels of co-operation?
at least we have any. :p
just like the americans and soviets needed german infusion, the chinese need russian/ukrainian help and the globe’s largest network of industrial espionage.
Question of secondary importance, but: what name would the IAF give to the Rafale ? How does one say “Rafale” in Hindi ?
practice of giving Indian names to foreign a/c has been dropped since the su-30mki.
^^^ does he need links ? that’s how these projects happen. check the MKI acquisition history, for instance.
Politics, politics, politics…
I don’t buy this in the least. The P-8 and AH-64 are frontline platforms, and transport (i.e. logistics) may be less sexy but is hardly of secondary importance. Technology transfer issues re: CISMOA and the like are more plausible.
But no, the real reason F-16 and F/A-18E/F were eliminated is because they are fat and slow and India actually cares about such trivialities as acceleration, agility, etc.
you are right. the article is garbage.
stopped F-16 deliveries to Pakistan (but kept the money)
wrong, US send them peanut oil or something like that in stead.
Germany is a long-standing Indian aviation partner, and a respected role model for Indian politicians, many of whom were educated there.
 really ? name one.
germany is respected but I have never heard of it being considered a role model.
Italy has never sold a major weapon to India, and so could bring neither influence nor reputation to support Eurofighter,
I guess 2 large tankers for navy, co-operation on the aircraft carrier doesn’t count.
Its all going to be Tipnis Grey not any other colour..so do you have some picture like that?
why ? the mirages are still without tipnis grey.
Although there was no deal, there was a serious “intention” to buy upto over 150 Mirages, but then Su-30 Mki happened. In fact I remember reading somewhere that IAF had even developed extensive infrastructure for over 150 M2K.
you have missed a step in between. intention to buy 150 mirgaes, bought 2 squadrons and then an acquisition freeze followed for ~ 5 years.
the su-30 amd mirage-2000-5 competed for the follow up order and su-30MKI was chosen.
What else is that second seat for? Everyone else is comfortable with single-seat A2A even for heavy aircraft like F-22, Su-35, PAK FA, J-20. What makes India different? And it’s not like the second seat comes free.
India prefers 2 seaters even for A2A roles, esp heavy duty ones that involve long and complex missions.
Ain’t Brazil wanting an assembly line for a much smaller order than 80 ?
IMO the 80 may well be Gripens, IAFs insurance against LCA delays/failure.
you will be tellling us IAF will be ordering gripens any day now till the last aircraft retires in 2040.
