Kilo submarine, INS Sindhurakshak being upgraded in Russia. I thought Sindhurakshak means Sea Protector, not Sea Giant.

defender of the seas would be the appropriate translation.

    No, not the US/NATO L-16.

But IAF use their own version(Russian) of the L-16.
    Same shi*.

    Thanks

you mean the polyot system. however, a common datalink project is currently in the works that will replace these.

Logan, it’s because I agree that I objected to the idea in the first place that those factors were a major reason behind PAF’s decision to select the saab-2000. anyway, I have already dropped the topic, hope you and the others do too.

on the other hand, if we get to know PAF’s actual criterions behind that selection it might add something to this thread.
hoping the PAF watchers are reading this thread and can help us out with some articles from the time. 😉

don’t you think you are missing the point of your own thread in your understandable eagerness to forestall an Ind v pak discussion ?

this threads intends to compare the pros and cons of EMB-145 v Saab-2000 as AEW&C and MPA. where does hot and high even enter into this discussion ?

but I’ve not seen anyone here even say they think the EMB 145 is better in hot and high.

why should anyone bother ? it has no relevance to their intended roles.

we might as well claim EMB-145 is better because it looks cool. that has as much relevance to AEW&C as operability in hot and high conditions does, especially for the respective users of the aircraft.

if you did know what hot and high is you won;t be claiming with a straight face that those bases are hot and high ! 😮
anyway, enough on this from me. and Arrows, if you have access to a computer and net you also have access to google, use it.

    logan, FYI

saab-2000 is apparently better in hot and high conditions and that was if i recall correctly, one of the reasons that it was preferred by the paf.

At the end of the day it is what you need. PAF tested SAAB 2000 and others in hot and high conditions and found it suitable.

you people need to recheck the definitions of hot and high. there are far hotter places in KSA for example or even in the desert areas of US. that is NOT what hot and high conditions mean.

chaklala at a mere 487 m ASL is hot and high ?

Sort of getting off topic, but if you google summer tempretures in Samunguli or Peshawar or you look up altitude at bases such as Skardu you will find the answer.

precisely the point I was making. no fighters are permanently based at skardu which is a forward base for wartime and helicopter base at best during peacetime.
PAF would have to be suicidal to want to operate an AEW&C aircraft from a forward air base.
same goes for the other bases(still less than 2000m ASL) you mention, they are far away from the Indian theatre where presumably these would be deployed and there are any number of well equipped airfields at much lower altitudes, from where these aircraft can operate without any restriction.
summing up, I don’t understand why operability in hot n high would be a consideration for PAF at all.

I find it more than a little strange that ‘hot and high conditions’ are being advertised as plus points of Saab 2000. hot and high conditions refer to high ambient temperatures at an airfield at high altitudes and . what use does an AEW&C aircraft have of hot and high conditions ? AEW&C aircrafts are operated from well furnished bases in the interior, not forward bases in god-forsaken areas.

all major PAF bases are situated within a few hundred metres of sea level, where the saab-2000 will be operated from. none of those are ‘hot and high’. in fact PAF does not even have a need for hot and high performance from its fighters for the same reason. in fact I wonder where at all PAF tested the hot and high characteristics and why.

but PLEASE let’s not let this turn into another Pakistan vs India thread.

where does this come from ? did my post indicate in any way that I was interested in a Ind V Pak slanging match ?

interestingly PAF uses the saab-2000 and IAF will use the EMB-145 with a local AEW&C system mounted on it(as many as 20 according to latest reports).
