latest
The latest from the haulier after he has had all the highways stats back for the junctions and bridges on the A66 and A19 is we cant move it the width we wanted originally as one junction out of the whole route would not allow us to get through This is very unfortunate as we now have to cut the wings inboard of the undercarriage creating more work in strip down .This also means that we will now need to pay for another trailer to move the wings .So we need to raise that money to keep the momentum going. So please all donations gratefully welcome .
This week four of the team are in Belfast stripping the compatable parts out the Trident 2 there. Two of us will take a Luton van over the day before and then meeting up next day with two other members who will be flying very early that morning. Later that day we will be coming back via the ferry and delievering the parts on the Friday to the museum before having a meeting with the museum and also with the hauliers and crane company. This meeting should sort out the itinery of delievery of the aircraft and many other areas of the move.
I can now give you the amount we have spent from donations for the Belfast trip.
We spent £125.90 for 4 days van hire . We were given 50% off by the van hire company.
I have also taken out 150.00 cash for the fuel costs of which any monies remaining will be paid back into the account.
What we have received in sponserships to do the belfast trip ……………..
Free return Ferry Tickets from Stena Line Ferries
1 night accomodation free from Gil Good Lodge in Northern ireland
1 night free accomodation from The Swan Inn Stranraar
1 night free accomodation in Teeside at the St George
50% Van hire for the four days that we require to do this in
With these sposerships we have saved paying out an additional £700 and we thank them all for helping this project.
As i said in the past posts we will endeavour to spend your donated monies very wisely and will make it go as far as we can so if anyone still wants to donate we will be very grateful
regards tony jarrett
We have more sponserships that the project has received in the last few days and we can announce that Airfix/Hornby have sponsered us with 250.00 worth of models that we can sell to raise funds for the Trident.
We have also received additional sponserships for our Belfast trip with not only Stena line and intact but with two hotels giving Neil and myself accomodation for the duration of the trip. The Gil Good Lodge near Belfast International Airport has sponsered us for the 19th May and The St George Hotel at Teeside Airport for the 21st May. We are currently talking with hotels in Stranraar to see if we can get accomodation there for the 20th. A big thankyou to all who are helping us on this trip and if you are in their area please consider using them.
Keep looking in to us on the website and on the forums and we will soon be looking at raising monies for carpets ,upholstery and paint , cheers to all tony
a big thankyou for those who donated a gallon or two. we just need another fifty pounds to go to get our 150 target for the fuel costs for the van. If any one still would like to buy a gallon for it they can still donate through the save the trident website. thankyou peeps
Could you sponser us with Belfast
Hi All
We have now arranged the Belfast Trip to pick up the parts from their trident 2 at their airport. This will be a four day marathon trip for two of us who are going over in a luton van while three of the team are flying from the Northeast. We received van hire from intact self drive with 2 days for the price of 1 and also have full sponsership from Stena line for the ferry return trip.
We will be starting the trip on the 19th may picking the van in Blackburn and driving to Stranraar in south west Scotland and catching the ferry to Belfast. This is the shortest and most economical route . From Belfast we have a 20 mile drive to the airport before we park up for the night. On the thur 20th May we will strip the Trident 2 there and return to Belfast ferry terminal and catch the ferry back to Stranraar. We will then drive down to Sunderland and unload the parts in readiness for the Trident G-ARPO arrival later this year. We will then return back on the Saturday to Blackburn to drop the van back off.
What we would really like to do is raise 150.00 for the fuel to do this 600 + mile round trip and asking if everybody could help by donating a pound to getting these very needed parts . If you would like to donate you can through our website http://www.savethetrident.org/ .It would help us enormously .
All flights and accomodation the save the trident team are paying out are out of their own pockets .
hi runway, i have not seen them before myself, maybe there will be a small mention of the demise of the tridents in the exhibition. i would pay that amount though cheers tony
Today Stena line have sponsered in full the ferry fares for a luton transit van return trip from Stranraar to Belfast for when we pick the Trident parts up in May. This is a fantastic news to the project and saves us from spending on these costs leaving the more money towards the move and restore.
Thank you Stena line
Yesterday (thursday) four of the team met at teeside and we started the restoration work on PO. A very successful day and enjoyable day acheiving more than we set out to do.After clearing the hold out of old suitcases we removed the wall panels and roof panels in the p/x cabin and a couple in the cockpit along with the copilots seat. The DV windows were closed back up and a nose wheel flap removed .The cabin luggage boxes were removed to put it back to what it started service with.
We also had our first meeting with the airport authority which was very succesful.

a very sucessful day yesterday up at the fire ground with some hauliers looking over the trident and measuring up. Just now awaiting quotes to be returned in the coming couple of weeks and we go from there. What was nice to see was their ethusiasm in the preservation and listening to their wealth of experience .very simcere people. Next week we meet the Durham Tees Airport Management to discuss the procedure of removal from the fireground and airport premises.
Today HSS tool hire have agreed to sponser us again by putting Neil Lomax , a member of the save the trident team through an abbrasive wheel course in April. Neil will be cutting the Trident prior to the transporting of the aircraft and it is the stipulation today with Health and safety that this course is completed. The course would of cost £95 but HSS have very kindly given this as a donation in addition to tool hire.
We would very much like to thank David Brannon , Simon Collier and the rest of the HSS tool hire team for their commitment and support to this project.
Help Needed
This week we were told that the museum the trident is going to can now take it sooner than previously arranged as they have now got the room for it. Work will start shortly with getting it dismantled and moved.
We are currently in talks with a few haulage companies in getting the best value in relation of cost and expertise to get this stage completed .
Donations from people has been excellent and we thank everyone so much. We are still short of our target and need one more push to get to acheiving the move so talk to your friends and work colleagues and contacts and help us get there,
We are looking to return in mid may to pick up the parts from Belfast International from their Trident 2 but require some help. What we require is the use or someone with a 7.5 ton truck/ luton van to pick up the parts and bring them back to England . Or if a company that goes to and fro to northern Ireland and has some spare room in a lorry / large van to get them back over the water. This is so crucial for us to find a generous donor to help us here so please if you want to help please get in touch…
We offer full publicity on our website and at the museum to all those who help us with the trident . Our website in the first half of this month has had 11000 page views and growing all the time so word is well and truly getting out about us. We have also been contacted by the BBC and tyne tees television of which we will be doing something with them soon. Recently we have been on Radio 5live and in the local papers and a couple of aircraft magazines.
Hi all .Can anyone help with transportation in aid of the Trident project from peterborough to sunderland . From my work place i have just aquired 4 x ladder steps . They are approx 8ft long by 11ft 6 high by 2ft 10 wide and will be ideal in getting to the the lower side of the trident on restoration. I need to take them within a month either a thur , fri or sat and looking for a kind hearted individual or company who would like to sponser us on this trip in return for the publicity on website and at museum where the trident will be on the roll of honour. It would take at least a size of a 7.5 ton lorry to take them. thankyou, tony
Belfast Trident
After discussions with the Belfast Airport Fire service we now can confirm that we have permission to have the parts off the Trident 2e that they had used for training for the past 2 decades. This is very good news for papa oscar as one of the parts that we required is a rudder of which the 2e is compatible.
update
Hi all,
over the last week we have been offered help with the breakdown side of the project by two national companies ,chep pallets have offered pallets to support the wings for when we remove them and HSS tool hire helping with the tools that we will require . We would like to thank them for their generosity and enthusism towards the saving of po. More will follow shortly and i hope very soon to be able to bring good tidings to all.
gear leg
We have another gear leg so problem solved.
The rudder was take off as the wind was catching it and was consequently scraped … We aim to get the one off the 2e at belfast. The other options failing that is to find a way to the nicosia trident 1e or we will make one again.
