I have the log books for G W Rippin (note correct spelling).
Thanks gents. Good advice and tips.
The longer lower spring bars remain elusive.
I may look into getting a couple machined unless one turns up – fingers crossed!
Thank you. I’ll the Squadron Association as suggested.
Hi Mindovermatter,
Thanks for the information. Incidentally, I have a log book and route plot/chart for a 101 Squadron Nav involved in Overlord countermeasure activity.
His log book entry for 5/6/44 states: ‘D Day Jamming Patrol. Invastion cover patrol. Nothing Seen. Very boring!’
The Navigator is Barnfather, the Pilot Davidson and the plane LM462.

Chaps, very helpful indeed. Many thanks.

There is quite a bit of green/black paint on the underside of the fabric and, interestingly, multiple rivet impressions. It looks like a flat -bladed instrument has been used to ‘lift’ the fabric from a painted metal surface – and done very carefully. More photos added – please see original post for link.
The story is that the emblem was removed when DV 171 was overhauled at Langar (Notts) by Avro. It passed from the ‘shed records’ keeper to the current owner in the late 50s – when they were in the Royal Observer Corps together.
Yes, that’s right Rich.
Still trying to find an alternative home…
Best,
David
Hi Anon,
PM sent.
Best, Dave
Great – thanks Gents.
Anyone in need of this for a restoration project, etc? It’s too big for my wall and it’s a shame to consign it to a shed!
Nice job, Ian. What do you plan to do with the casting?
JDH1976, it does have history. It was originally from the ‘breaker’s yard’ at Skellingthorpe where many crashed Lancs were broken up. I have the plane ref number somewhere, which I’ll try and find.
I did have a co-pilot Lanc wheel – but that was not mine to keep (nor could I justify buying two and it seemed greedy!). Here is a pic anyway. If anyone is interested in Bomber Command log books and escape kit I have put a few items on-line where, at least, i can look at them without removing them from storage!! http://www.ww2rafcollection.co.uk.
