sum of all fighters
Who cares about the stupid politics for now.
Some great pictures of those Typhoons and Bears!
Right Phantom!! great pics!!
Actually the real thing (if we wanna be sincere with ourself)is that everyone of us (no matter if pro white star or pro red star aircraft) would have see those wonderful machines fight each other in a big fat war to prove which is the best ( if not we were talking in the civil aviation thread!!!!!!!!!!!)
Fortunately for the rest of the world this is only the mad desire of few ones(like us):D
The quantities refers to aircraft directly available to the squadrons or the total in charge to the air forces? for example the F14 tomcat was bought in more than 650 exemples by the US Navy, but no more than 380-400 exemples have been contemporary in effective service.
Here’s a complete OoB for 1987, VVS, PVO and AVMF, fighting fixed-wing aircraft.
910 MiG-21 Fishbed
1990 MiG-23 Flogger
410 MiG-25 Foxbat
830 MiG-27 Flogger
275 MiG-29 Fulcrum
125 MiG-31 Foxhound
500 Su-15 Flagon
970 Su-17 Fitter
770 Su-24 Fencer
210 Su-25 Frogfoot
15 Su-27 Flanker
450 Tu-16 Badger
135 Tu-22 Blinder
275 Tu-22M Backfire
150 Tu-95 Bear
100 Tu-128 Fiddler
85 Yak-28 Firebar
70 Yak-38 Forger
15 M-4 BisonTotals around 8,300 aircraft. Keep in mind, that before the Union dissolved in 1992, around 630 Su-27’s were in service, 500 MiG-31’s, 800 MiG-29’s, 15 Tu-160’s, and so on…The sheer numbers for ’87 and ’92 are the same, but the small five-year period boosted the VVS/PVO/AVMF capability by a generation.
Where did you find all those data? there are books i can find? or links?

GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
many thanks!!!!!!!
sorry, i forgot , it would be good knowing the operational amounts and not the total which was bought.
Interesting news.. Why are the radomes of some of them painted black, then?
Could be possible that the grifo radar has been tested on firm planes, never AMI ones ( no Ghibli of our 311 test sqdr) ; The big black radome was introducted on some aircraft in the mid 90’s starting from 28 squadron and 132 squadron of the 3 rd STORMO of Villafranca di Verona ; it was the recon wing of the Aeronautica militare; never knew the reason why some planes received a bigger paintbrush of black; anyway it was not a real radome but only black enamel on fuselage ; you can see the separation with the real radome in the above picture-link you posted.
Happy to see someone interested in AMX
Hi,
our AMX never used the Grifo radar, at the moment all AMX uses only a radar altimeter ( the little black radome you see in every pictures contains it)
It could be good having a Ghibli using a real radar with amram capabilities but it has always been a request of the air force which has never been funded.
The AMX will use JDAM; in november 2005 I saw one with a dummy one under the pylon on the flight line of Caselle Airport, where Alenia produces the aircraft.
It was the prototype of the ACOL mid life update which comprise JDAM capabilities, link 16, gps navigator and other minor modifies. That plane also had a Sicral satellite ( our mil-satellite for communications) antenna receiver, but it was only a test cause ACOL program does not include SICRAL capability.
A friend saw the ACOL at DECIMOMANNU in may for jdam trials.
Then when did the MiG-31 meet any of those US fighters? And while the F-15 did down a few MiG-25s, there is that one F/A-18 kill the Iraqis scored with a MiG-25. Camp Speicher is named after the Hornet pilot, which didn’t survive.
Back to topic – the MiG-31 is more than an interceptor, it’s an aerial patrol aircraft as well. It might be a way of avoiding the need for an AWACS platform while maintaining an interceptor fleet. Not that it would be a bad idea to have at least some additional AEW…
Ciao Arturo, ma non hai un cazzo da fare tutto il giorno?
Thanks everybody, anyway my question was a joke… I didn’t thik you took it so seriously!
Thank to Mig 23 for great pictures of T10 ( not a joke)
