The maneuver of deceiving the Yugoslav Anti Aircraft Artillery fails: hit over Surcin, the most praised strategic Stealth aircraft, “B-2A Spirit”, hit the ground behind the last houses in Dec village, in Pecinci district.

The cool night in May, the sky is full of stars. Unfortunately,the meteorological conditions over Belgrade are perfect for a flight of the black “spirit”. Three aircraft are flying to the capital of Yugoslavia. These strategic bombers, “B-2A Spirit” from the American war airforce, marked “509 Bombers wing ER force USA”, carry some 101 tons of the lethal facilities in its containers: cruising missiles SRAM AGM-69A, AGM-129A and AGM-131A, MK84 bombs, cluster bombs and inflammable M117.

The sky is roaring while three black birds, each weighting 181.400 kilos, are flying through the black night, 15km over the ground, their wings in the shape of the letter “W”, each has the surface of 465,5 square meters. Their target is Belgrade.

Two pilots feel safe in their cockpits as they are flying too high, but they will have to fly lower to fulfill their task. And than…

They are discovered…

The bombardier’s formation, accompanied by the fighter planes, is already over Yugoslavia when the Yugoslav army unit “VOJIN” in the northwest zone of operations gives the alarm. First Yugoslav Anti Aircraft Artillery shots are fired through the darkness. As the aircraft are coming deeper into the air space of FR Yugoslavia, the artillery fire from the ground is harder and harder.

A part of the air-force brigade is attacking the northeast sector of Belgrade. Their plan is to distract the attention of the Yugoslav Anti Aircraft Artillery from the “B-2A” as in already performed attack on the Chinese embassy at 23,30 p.m. on 7th May, and to direct it to the Pancevo bridge and Belgrade down town. At the same time, the strategic bombardiers formation will sneak from Surcin to Yugoslav capital and rock it.

The sky over Belgrade was in flames at that first hour of 20th May, 1999.

The hospitals in Dedinje were hit. And the “spirits” were already over Surcin, the pilots thought that the trick was perfect. But, the fire arrows were flying from the ground towards the “invisible”, the canon grenades and the ground-air missiles were fired. Bingo! Direct hit.

The aircraft crews realized that their anxiety was not groundless and they started to fly their heavy machines over 5.000 meters. However, it was late for one of the “spirits”. The direct hit into the ****-pit of the American “B-2A”, terminated its flight for ever, and thwarted his attentions to bomb already wounded Belgrade.

The smoke was heavy while the “invisible” wing was in fire. The black bird fall headfirst and other two were already escaping to the safe highs, turning their ****-pits towards the air- base.

According to the eye-witnesses, “B-2A” hit the ground in Dec village, Pecinci county, the field between Simanovci and Kupinovo. All eye-witnesses from Surcin stated that the crew had had no time to catapult and died for sure in the blasted American airforce’s bomber.

The morning news broadcasted short information about the USA strategic bomber that had been shot. The news was not denied, even by the NATO.

One of twenty “B-2A” that costed 2,4 billion dollars ended in the fields near Surcin.

At the beginning of the aggression on Yugoslavia, only two strategic bombers “B-2A Spirit” were put into the battle.

The aggressors believed that they could ruin the spirit of the people and their effective defense.

But, after the fierce response of the Yugoslav Army, the hopes for uick and easy success of the criminal armada failed and the NATO command cried out for new “B-2A”. After the long persuasion of the USA, four more “B-2A” came from the “Waiman base” on the 1st April, 1999.

One of those “Spirits” will never come back.
