Very interesting, thanks all for the input.
Can anyone speculate as to the likelihood of this coming from a wreck (I believe a Mk 3 crashed into the Moray Firth in the ’50’s or ’60’s) or parts that may have been dumped at Kinloss and that have since found their way into the sea?
Edit: Crash date Dec 1965, only Shack to have been w/o over water in the near vicinity.
Avro Shackleton exhaust collector.
You think this is an exhaust pipe from a Shack?
would u consider spraying it with wd40 and see if it comes up with any stamps or serial numbers on it?
Yes, of course. If there are any special instructions on how to do this, please let me know. Thanks.
Never mind that, Bonhams ‘nicked’ one of my shots of the Magister for their ad. I should get a cut!

just spotted this Nimrod nose in Elgin last week near the scrapyard but thankfully not in it.Its likely XV240.
Yep, that is definitely ‘240. (You can just see the Morayvia ‘blurb’ below the cockpit/nose end)
Sorry to hijack this thread slightly, but is anyone able to identify this chunk of aircraft taken at the Elgin scrapyard April 1993? I’m afraid i haven’t a clue! Many thanks.

Many thanks for this Dave, yes it’s quite obvious now i look at it! That is my pic of WB847 from the same day that you have referenced! I have some shots of ‘847 on the Kinloss dump before it came to Elgin which might give a clue as to whether this chunk belongs to herself. W&R might also hold more detail with regards to dates.
Thanks again!

I have posted a thread recently showing some photos of Gannet XG882 at Errol in 1991, not too long after her arrival at Errol – looking very different. Also shown is Vampire XD403 which came over from Strathallan at roughly the same time.
http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?134009-Errol-s-Gannet-amp-Vampire-nearly-25-years-ago!
The Gannet has been a display piece at some point as there is a plinth next to it with it’s history written in very faded writing, i visited it at the weekend there. Aircraft itself in a very depressing condition, but infinitely photogenic, though perhaps better now for more arty shots!
I spoke with a chap who reckons the Buccaneer resides in a building a couple of fields away closer to the River Tay. I also noted the shed in which the Vampire is pictured above, but it has certainly gone from that location, and the same chap didn’t know where to.
(There’s another thread on this forum relating to XG882, which alludes to the fact that the owner had been made offers in the past but wanted silly money for it. Apparently it was moved from the main airfield site some years ago due to kids at Errol Sunday Market continually vandalising it. But where it was once victim to this, it looks like exposure to the elements will finish it off. Very sad.)
Some shots of the Yaks which were present during March 1993. I think a couple more arrived a month or so later but i missed there. Have ID’s for these if anyone wants to know..

I have a few more shots taken over the years – the Shack and Comet have been done to death by now (if you’ll pardon the pun, not intended) but are still beautiful to look at. The Magister features (is still at Strathallan somewhere gathering dust i believe?), as does an un-ID’d Fokker Dr.1 replica – does anyone have any info on this????
Also around at the time (March 1993) were several Yak imports – will upload photos of these in the coming days as they are certainly interesting. Obviously not ever part of the museum, but was the Fokker replica? There may have been TWO Fokker replicas present, i can’t actually remember, but it rings a bell – only photographed one.

G-AOEL Tiger Moth at East Fortune
Great photos and thanks for sharing these. Do you have a date for the restoration pic of ‘AOEL?
Many thanks.
By that and your reference to G-ANPC never having been part of the Collection, whiteout, do you mean you are interested in all aircraft which have been owned by the Roberts family and based at Strathallan at one time? If so are you aware of this –
http://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=24984
I’d be interested to know if any other aircraft were owned between 1929 and the 1960s.
Thank you for the link – yes, very interesting, though to answer your question, i suppose my interest in the Tiger Moths and things that were around Strathallan in the 60’s is because i gather than some of the airframes (the Tiger Moths and Jackaroo) were very probably cannibalized or used as spares for the flying ‘Tiger’ they had there when the collection came to fruition – i may very well be wrong in assuming this, but this era could be considered as a prelude to the arrival of the collection and isn’t completely unrelated.
It would be very interesting to find out any history that dates back further as so little is documented, though the collection itself and it’s history is a fairly consuming subject to tackle!
I don’t suppose anyone would ever have much of a motive to compile such a history for publication other than Dick Richardson himself, and if the will was there, he’d probably have done it by now! Life goes on though….
Cheers!!
I meant to add, there is a fantastic collection of Strathallan photos brought together in a Flickr group for anyone who is interested:

Hi whiteout,
I believe parts from NM140/ G-APGL were used in G-AJVE’s restoration. However I can’t remember and never noted where I got that info from sadly. NM140 was not sold at the auction – the last clipping I have for it indicates that it was to be initially restored to display standard at Strathallan. Both it and G-AYWA were sold later. I have ‘WA as going to Air Atlantique then to the Royal Army Museum in Belgium but Neil Geddes may have had it before that.
N6532/ G-ANTS was sold at the auction – reports on price varies from £2600 to £4700!
Forgot also G-AOEL which went to East Fortune.
Also there was G-ANOS which was sold in Canada in the early 70s in exchange for Bolingbroke 9940.
Thank you mothminor. You could say i am trying to piece together a chronological history of Strathallan and it’s collection, so the info about G-ANOS is both very interesting and new to me too.
I have read differing reports of G-ANTS being in Sweden and Hong Kong, unless it is in Sweden with a Hong Kong owner?
G-ANPC which was never part of the collection first came to Strathallan in 1966 after overturning at it’s base of Portmoak, the guys from Strathallan Air Services active at the time doing the repair job. It was finally written off on 2nd January 1967 after crashing into a hillside near Portmoak so presumably it’s remains came to Strathallan shortly after and were either stored or used for spares (more likely) as it is documented as being there by 1969 at the latest.
G-APGL is said to be stored at Baxterley, Warks – can anyone confirm this?
Many thanks (again)!
