I just dont think drivers are being punished enough for leaving the track at the moment. I know they have to give places back, but they just do it at a place that is best for them and dont lose much time. With a gravel trap you are either out of the race or get out and lose places and have to go in for tyres (wing). That way it is also good for viewers because everybody likes to see a fast car coming back through the field.

I am all for regular rule changes. They have to happen now because the technology is so advanced, its just a shame that the cars all look and pretty much the same with in the constraints of the rules. No more six wheel Tyrrells, fan cars etc. I do agree though that the way the teams / designers can match or improve the pace of the previous season despite limitations is amazing. I think a lot of people who nock Formula One dont appreciate it is a technology race as much as race on the track.
The safety features never stop being improved. I see all drivers will now have a reinforced strip on their visors in response to the Massa accident. A ceramic visor is being developed. We all benefit from these technologies.
The one thing I do want to see changed in Formula One (despite my safety ramblings) is the ten mile run off areas. Bring back the gravel traps.

    Lets not forget Ratzenberger.
There have been some amazing advances in safety features in the last few years but none more so (in my opinion) than the HANS device.

[QUOTE=John C;1728132]BBC iPlayer had a prog (seems to have gone now :() called Grand Prix: The Killer Years. Worth a watch if you can find it. Very moving.

I watched it a few days ago. The footage of David Purley trying to get Roger Williamson out of his upturned, burning car is truly shocking. I hope those `marshalls` see it every time they close their eyes.

Anyway back to this season. I think it will be a good one this week. The new tyres will tear their selves to pieces in that heat and the rain will come.
McLaren will need to have something pretty good to match the Red Bulls, who are not even using KERS, but I dont think they will have a one, two.
