Thanks for pointing out some nice examples, but I’ll wait for the film to be convinced.
I have nothing against any remakes of any film. They mainly challenge our perceptions of what we have known or have seen. Remakes only challenge imagery and memory.
I have no real issues with how they handle the characters or the missions…I will have issues if the americans win it for us…
But what I do have an issue with is CGI instead of photography. Every CGI film I have seen has given me the impression of just watching a Cartoon and I feel it is even worse than 1930’s models in a backdrop of studio scenary.

A couple of weeks later (10th June) I joined the RAF as a mechanic! – thanks for reminding me just how long ago that was…37 years?……..As I’m still in the trade, if no longer in the mob, I’l treat myself to a well deserved beer right now.
….Cheers!
Obviously, I would normally have bid for a Bucc or two – but with Christmas coming up an’ all….
Don’t know much about seats – but the seat-back stitching looks like my mate’s Pembroke Seat, although the framework doesn’t seem too much like his.
So I guess the style is about late 40’s early 50’s – if that helpls?
And they got the tail-rotor rotation direction wrong on XJ763…!.
erm…like it mattered when they dumped it there.

Did 5 years working on G-HUEY (alongside STVA) – some of the most impressive simple ideas I’d ever seen – and almost all Gruntproof.
I worked on Whirlwind HAR10s for 5 years too – and considering that the S-55 was designed in the same era you cant wonder for long, why the HUEY design “took off”. Better Cruise, power, weight, usable loadspace, access both sides, control systems……
A belated Happy Birthday and thanks to the designers.
As for the Chinook – I quite enjoyed my 10 years on the C model too!
Pardon my ignorance, but are you sure this is an ex-RAF machine?
It has the Navy’s standard Low Cabin (hence the high and small Cabin Door) that accomodates the Torpedo Tube beneath.
It also has the Tube cut-out on the lower Fuse/Boom Fillet Fairing.
I didnt work on Piston WWs just HAR 10’s – So I accept I may be wrong.
Guys,
does anyone remember a topic about how to clean and treat corrosion on aircraft parts?
The methods and materials used depends on what material you’re treating!
Can you find out if you’re dealing with Steel, Aluminium, “Alclad” or any form of Magnesium Alloy?
This info should be in the “spec” of repair materials – if you have a repair manual…
Try this:
http://www.corrosionist.com/Aircraft_corrosion_protection_library.htm
Alternatively try describing the type of corrosion you can see.
There was a book “Aircraft Nose Art of the Gulf War” or similar title – to lazy to google for you.
I just loved that it was done outside! In a Revetment.
No staging, No overalls, mask, breathing system, goggles, gloves even!
I also loved the way he just sprayed over or into all those little hole things…
Wow!
I remember re-registering it (and all the others) back to KLM from KLMuk. This one was previously G-UKFE.
Whilst “pootling” around in a hired boat on Hickling Broad today I (we) saw a gyroplane for the first time – Spooky!
Brick
If the Bucc was ever called the “Brick” (and I never heard that myself) Then it’s more likely to be because it was built like a Brick Sh!thouse.
