Out of sanctions and Libya goes weapons shipping right away. What is Qaddafi up to? What else is possibly planned to be purchased by Libya?

I know this is a little off topic, but in an eventual war (let’s say Turks trying to exert more control of Cyprus or the Greek islands in the Aegean), how would the Greek AF/Navy fare against their Turkish counterparts. Considering EU or US would not get involved on anyone’s side.

It seems Turkey maintains way more combat fighters(though latest Greek fighters seem to be more advanced), very well trained pilots, not to mention they have a population 7 times bigger than that of Greece and they spend quite more on defence than Greece does, considering also that they have need for a bigger army due to Turkey’s sheer size and the Kurds.

Please no flames. I live right now in Greece, and i see the Greek politicians trying to appease Turkey through numberous ways, are they scared of an eventual conflict with Turkey? How would the Navy fare? In the collision incident over the Aegean, if I understood Turkey put up 80 F-16s into the Air or something, while Greece only 40. I know this is somewhat insignificant but it seems to have caused a lot of debate in Greece over this incident and the strength of the Greek miliatary. Also how would Cyprus deal with a ground war with Turkey?

the F-35 is a good aircraft but I don’t think Poland needs such an expensive and advanced aircraft, the Rafale or Typhoon would do well, and after all, “buy European, support EU economy” shouldn’t be that the motto of EU? please someone tell me it’s dumb? Politics yes i know, but c’mon, where aren’t military deals mixed up with politics?

Well this is very obvious that Turkey is trying to expand into the Aegean by creating a corridor by claiming many inlets, close to it’s coast and right in the middle of the Aegean. Notice how they change the numbers of islets all the time. They have also successfully expanded into Cyprus and kept Greece out of Cyprus, as well as kept the Cypriots themselves relatively unarmed (they could be way more)…………so why appease Turkey anymore? They don’t have the right to claim anything in the Aegean, nor do they have the right to stop Cyprus from being armed……….

Instead of trying to expand geographically, as they have been trying to do for over the last 600-700 years they should try to make their “democracy” work as much as it can.

Well, I don’t like to generalize, but is it just me, or has anyone noticed that esp in the British and American history, and somewhat less in French, they have tended to look only after their interests and did never care about their ‘allies’ or about respect. They used someone as much as they could, then when they were not needed they were ditched off. There are a million examples.

I am not just startin a flame war, but the example is here, that Greece fought 2 world wars with Britain/US, yet now they are made a second in this area because of the bigger interests in Turkey.

I understand other great powers like the Germans and Russians have ‘used and ditched’ others too but they seem to be much more respectful, which is perhaps why they didn’t get very far in history of wealth and expansionism as the other 3 have.

I wouldn’t be surprised if tommorow Greece left the NATO and US/Britain would care less…and when the time comes when US is no longer need Saudi Arabia, they will force democracy to knock on their doors and support overthrow of the kingdom, or……….i can go on..

I think besides the F-22, anothe good option for Japan is a large numer of F-35As(for AF) to replace F-15s and F-4s and F-35Bs for the Navy….there you have commonality…isn’t that more sensible?

China is arming Pakistan, Myanmar against India, while India is arming Vietnam and helping Taiwan…….wut a coincidence…

I think LCA would be a great replacement in the future of Viet Mig-21s….and of course don’t be surprised if Viet Su-30MKs get upgraded to Su-30MKIs.

Thats truee…..I agree with what you guys have said..but however we can always get a rough estimate on how much a fighter costs depending on how much they have been sold to other countries..

Well Su-30K is just an older Su-27UB with a few refinements. I dont think it can be much of a match for the M2K-5 with MICA. Su-30Ks cannot carry R-77.

Yes the Su-27s are huge compared to the little Mirage-2000s. I remember looking at a pic of a Eritrean Su-27 besides 2 Mig-29s. The Mig-29s looked cubs besides bears. Now I think the Mig-29 is little bigger than the Mirage-2000, imagine how the Mirage-2000 would look next to it.

Not a chance in hell of the Russians catching a Blackbird.

Mig-31s have intercepter a Blackbird before, soo it’s possible that they could’ve shot it down.

Because it would sort of screw up French reputation in Greece if they don’t fix this problem. I guess this is what might happen. But, cmon not like the Russians or Americans have better customer support, so anyways….
