one F-117A was downed and one crash landed in Croatia and was beyond economic repair
A F-117 was never hit by an R-73 from a Mig-29.
If lets say the Anti-Shipping missiles are armed with nuclear warheads, and they come close to a carrier, if they hit obviously the carrier is done, but if they are destroyed by something like a Phalanx, wouldn’t they still basically destroy the carrier since the missile would be destroyed and explode so close to the Carrier?
A french transall transport aircraft have
been lightly damaged by gunfire from ivorian
troops on the tarmac of abidjan airport in response
for the 2 SU 25 and 1 MI 24 destroyed this afternoon
1 french soldier and 2 ivorian troops have been wounded
And where was this C-160 exactly?
Any more info on the IVCAF?
Yes, thats why I think the Osprey should only be bought in smaller numbers for the Marines and Special Forces, if you plan to use SVTOL aircraft for lifting heavy stuff and other stuff other than normal soldiers, then thats definitely not going to be very effective. I doubt that VTOL C-130 is going to be able to lift much in VTOL mode.
I dunno, the SVTOL has it’s advantages, but a fixed wing STOL aircraft is MUCH more cost effective. Compare the SVTOL Osprey to something like a S-80GP or like C-27 Spartan, they can lift more than the Osprey, and at longer ranges.
Good one, this one should be tricky because when thinking of maintenance, commonality and other crap.
-For strike purposes, I will want the F-111, it sure is a maintenance nightmare, but it has long range, fast and large payload.
-Get the F-14 with latest AIM-7 versions for that time, Phoenix and such. Also wire it for all kinds of other weaponry as the F-111. I could get the Su-24 but it will not be available for some time and the weapons commonality between F-111 and Su-24 won’t be there.
-For AWACS, E-2C Hawkeye.
-So here I got a real heavy interceptor and light bomber. The next thing I need is a light fighter IN numbers. I will want an F-5E/F in LARGE numbers as a multirole light fighter, give it a good Israeli or American radar and AIM-7/AIM-9, and all kinds of air to surface ordinance it can fit. I would also use the twin seater F-5F as a twin seat advanced jet trainer for my AF. Order a lot of Su-25A/UBs. Alot of Su-25s with all kinds of goodies and do a local program with Israelis to wire it with some American weapons like Maverick and AIM-9 to have that weapons commonality.
Use F-5E/Fs as multirole fighters and also as jet trainers for all kinds of missions, and also use the Su-25A/UBs for CAS and they can also be used for twin seat jet training for other aircraft.
-Order a small number of Tu-22M’s with Kh-22 and all kinds of cruise missiles on it, this will give me unsurpasses Anti-Ship Capability against anyone as well as long range striking capabilities.
-For Basic training, give me some Tucanos or PC-9s armed with all kinds of goodies.
-Just to also keep the Soviets happy, give me the Il-76 heavy transport and Il-78 tankers.
-A lot of Mi-8s for transports
-Mi-26s for heavy transport
-Ka-27s for ASW, could order it with the same engine variant as the one of Mi-8 for commonality
-C-130 for medium transport, KC-130 for tankage as a secondary tanker also for helicopters and etc, PC-130 for patrol and ASW and Maritime Patrol.
So basically, F-111, F-14A, E-2C, F-5E/F, Su-25A/UB, Tu-22Ms, Il-76, Il-78, Mi-8, Mi-26, Ka-27, C-130, KC-130, PC-130, Tucanos/PC-9s.
FC-1, F-7MF, LFC-16 lol.
What about actually guiding the missile like R-37M all the way to the AWACS? R-37 is SARH/ARH. An aircraft like the later versions of Flankers can probably detect an AWACS at around 400kms and maybe even more. How about GCI?
Well, compared to the subsonic harpoon, by how much will the Yakhont/Brahoms’ speed increase in it’s lethality?
As for Russian AshMs, what about low flying supersonic Moskit, or the subsonic Kh-35, or the Alfa which flies flow subsonically then last 20kms it speeds up to m2-3+.
Yes while u can drop a JDAM from like what 15000m and even more? For KAB series you have to go below 5000m which exposes you to low level trashfire like short range SAMs. What about Kh-25 and Kh-29 and their drop altitudes?
AFAIR their radars and navigation systems did not work, this was discovered when they went up into the air. So there was NO possibly way for the Mig-29s to fire any of their BVRAAMs except the R-73s, but the Eagles sniped them beyond R-73’s range. If their radars worked, and since they flew, they would’ve probably detected the Eagles before they would detect them and it would give them a chance of firing R-27s, but this was not possible.
The AWACS will have NO chance of dodging the missile probably, however it’s options from there are towed decoys, turning off the radar, sending fighters to intercept the missile or just quickly trying to run away. I don’t think running away would be an option because a mach 4 missile travels
So lets say KS-172 travels 67km/min while the AWACS will cover about 13-15km/min(lets say going 800km/h). If fired at lets say 380km range, the missile will get there in some 5 minutes and 40 seconds approx. The AWACS, if it detects the missile right away, will have little time to play around before it decides to try and run or stay. If it tries to run, well you can calculate how many minutes it will have to waste before it can turn and run the other way and escape.
The Marines are not interested in the Apache, they got the Cobra. That is perhaps why.
Actually, this is the Mig-29M2, the twin seater.
