It is possible, the Israeli F-5 upgrade gives F-5 BVR capability, so does the Mig-21-93. However the Israeli Mig-21-2000 or the Romanian/Israeli Lancer doesnt give the Mig-21 any BVR capability.

As for J-7, not possible, the smallest radars around cannot be fitted to any inservice J-7 variant, especially those sold to Pakistan and others, it’s nose is too small, it’s not like the larger and wider nose of the Mig-21bis

I know this is a little off topic, but has HAF made any plans to purchase any tankers? Turkey has a few yet Greece has none.

I believe a few Tomcats were shot down, 1 was shot down by a Mig-23 for suree and I believe a Mirage F1 too.

There will in future be turbo prop tactical transports like the Il-214 and the TU-330 which will be the only ones in their class. Size and payload of AN-70, C-130J, A400M yet much more fuel efficient, faster, and should come at a much cheaper price.

Still, some 70 F-16s, few Erieyes and 150 FC-1s will not be enough to stand up to some 100+ Su-30MKIs, 200 M2Ks/Mig-29s, 200+ LCAs and other crap India is going to have in the future.

The F-16 doesnt seem to be good at high speed high altitude dogfights, where the Flanker seems pretty good at high altitude but not sure at a higher speed. The F-16C/D may be smaller and such, but at a higher altitude the Flanker should be much better, remember it has a better T/W ratio(more power) and of course TVC and such. I would pick a Flanker or Fulcrum for a dogfight against an F-16, F-15, F-14 or F-18 anyday anytime anywhere. They both have HMS and high off boresight missiles.

I like the Brahmos/Yakhont(which are similar in most ways) but imo the Klub is a much better missile. Yes the Klub has a 220km range compared to the 300km range of Brahmos, bu the Klub is MUCH smaller and lighter. Not only this, but when it comes to Anti-Ship purposes I would pick the Klub over the Brahmos any day any time. It will come low and slow for most of the flight, where the enemy ships will have very small amount of time to detect it before it’s supersonic boost stage takes over and slams into a ship at m2.5. For submarines especially, with limited amount of space, the Klub is much better. The ship/sub launched Brahmos weighs 3000kg, while the Klub something like 2200kg I think.

Then you have the land attack versions. the 3000kg 300km supersonic Brahmos can also be used against land targets, but the land attack version of Klub, the 1750kg 300km totally subsonic(without the booster) is imo a much better land attack cruise missile. Many more can be carried, yet with the same range and warhead pretty much.

The Air Launched Klub(Alfa) is like the sub/ship launched Klub, but it’s much lighter, at 1600kg compared to 2500kg for the Brahmos. The Alfa has a range of 250kms while the Brahmos has a range of 300km. Still, for the same reasons listed above, the Klub is imo a much better missile.

There is the carrier version of Yak-130 in development right now. India can finance this to buy some of them for their Carriers. If not then turn to training their pilots on twin seater Mig-29K which will be more expensive, but since there are so few it doesnt really make much of a difference if you have a carrier trainer like the T-45.

Wouldnt they be able to wire an Su-24, F-14 or F-4 to carry a single Kh-55 on their centreline hardpoint?

Iran is NOT a flat desert with clear conditions. Check your map lol.

Yes, US will need a while to destroy the Iranian AF. I mean the Iranian AF is much better equipped AND trained than the Yugoslav AF was. They have better SAM support, they have many more airfields, which are HUGE and built like American ones were. The Iraqi AF attempted to destroy Iranian runaways I believe but were unsuccessfull due to their sheer size.

AFAICS, in a hypothetical similar situation only the Serbs would do it, assuming that they’d ever have the military means.
Of course they’d murder so many civilians on the way that they’d force the world to stop them, but they’d have the will. None of the others would. Probably not even Russia today.

Please……just a lot of **** out of your mouth.

Well obviously a Su-35 with R-77 and R-37M will kill anything in air combat today except the F-22, it is expensive and even if Iran could afford some 100 of them, they will still not be enough for how many F-16s, F-18s, F-22s, F-15s, etc US and Israel would be able to amass against Iran. I say a lot of SAMs like S-300PMU2/S-400 will give Iran a pretty good air defense system, and possibly upgrade their Mig-29s to SMT. They really cannot do much with their F-4s, F-5s or F-14s now.

Yahhh, the Flanker is not that much better than the F-14+AIM-54. The Iranians bought the Mig-29, and they were disappointed with it because it was short legged, and of course it couuldnt tackle the F-14 in BVR, only could it defeat it in dogfights. Maybe if they thought about upgrading their Mig-29As to SMT it would change their mind about the Mig-29.
