and not only that, Libya is famous for not having enough pilots to fly all their Migs. Back during the Cold War, Qaddafi bought more Migs than he could fly, therefore he had spare aircraft instead of pilots. How often does that happen.
And yes the Russians are much more reliable in this case. Libya has the money, they could invest in future in PAK-FAs to replace eveyrthing from all of their Migs in invetory to mirages. A sufficient number could be like less than 40 for Libya.
Isnt it funny that now Iran is like squeezed by US, from Iraq and Afghanistan, good move on George Bush’s part by taking over Iraq, now he can attack Syria from Iraq and Israel and Iran from Iraq and Afghanistan. Saudi Arabia probably wont give much support, but I bet Turkey will.
Yes, the T-22M3 sounds reasonable, plus maybe some avionics upgrades and such as the Tu-22M5 is sopposed to be getting plus some Chinese weapons integrated.
I understand that the Gorshkov was fitted with P-700 and such, what kind of SAMs and Missile systems are gona be fitted on it now.
Don’t know the exact story behind this all, but it is well possible that without the Italian funds the Yak-130 / M-346 would never have been born at all.. As long as Yak gets its orders from RusAF and other potential customers, it is a win-win for both sides.
Mig-AT had no foreign funds yet it flew, lol. The M-346/Yak-130 is a Yak design, and even Aermacchi acknowledges this. What happend was that when they developed it together, Aermacchi chipped in a lot of money too and then said “they had different schedueles” and split off. it was a nice way of taking someone else’s product and slapping ur name on it.
Pretty good choice, and this thing is no pushover when it comes to the Attack Role, it’s small light, has 9 hardpoints and can haul a 3000kg load. I think Greece could also wire it with a mini radar like the Grifo with AIM-120, NSM and a few other goodies to allow it to complement Mirages and F-16s in the Air Defense role.
Wow Korea is really developing their own industry, from Trainers, Fighters, Tanks, Helicopters and now SAMs, what else is on the list?
I dont think any of them are that much better than the current F-15C/DJs they got.
I think the F-16E/F is a better choice than te F-18E/F.
IMO there is no need to upgrade the Mig-21 except extend it’s service life so it can fly until 2010. We may need a BVR capability but looking at our possible future enemies, no matter how many BVR capable fighters we’ve got it still will never be able to stand up to NATO. Only Hungary and Greece in that area will have BVR capable fighters, but they are no threat. So no need for Mig-21-93’s BVR capability.
IMO I think the Mig-21 should only be kept for Air Policing and to give our pilots supersonic flight and such. Then in 2010 replace with whatever
I dont think we need Mig-21-93’s A2G capability, since the G-4M has the range and payload of the Mig-21. There have been rumors that the M upgrade is going on further to the M2 upgrade.
AFAIR Lasta 3 is going to enter production soon, it seems like a decent training plane, it’s very cheap to run, it’s not a turbo prop its a simple prop engine and a weak one too.
ewww the Nimrod, now thats an ugly aircraft.
I think the An-22(Y-8) are pretty ugly too. I was never a big fan of the Il-76 either.
I dont mind joining EU somewhat for ONLY the economical advantages and such, but we really dont need NATO nor do they need us. The disadvantages of joining NATO are that we would have to bring all of our equipment to NATO standard, which most of it is not, and it’s expensive, the advantage however is that if anyone picks on us they got our back, but our problems will come in the future from Kosovo and Albania pretty much.
Not really, and the only thing they plan in the future is upgrades of Mi-8s, G-4s and other aircraft.
IMO the Mig-21-93 is a better upgrade than the LANCER, because importantly it greatly increases the life of the airframe, as opposed to LANCER being a cockpit upgrade. Besides the Mig-21-93 has BVR capability, which imo is not that important in our case, but nonetheless it’s there.
I think they will eventually keep the Mig-21s just to give our pilots some supersonic training and keep it there for Air Policing, nothing else. G-4Ms are going to be doing all the CAS/Interdiction work and such.
J-22s will probably be going out of service pretty fast too.
LOL don’t bother trying to argue with this guy.
The Serbs, duh!!! You know, those people that started 4 wars in the balkans and killed hundreds of thousands of people…
It is unknown who started the Yugoslavian civil war, apperantly everyone blames themselves. The Albanians happend to **** up in Kosovo before we went in and kicked them out in 99, we didnt start anything. You guys should’ve been more peaceful.. Now you’re trying to start **** in Macedonia.
I think the Macedonians deserve what they are getting now, I like the Macedonians they are my Slavic brothers and very similar to us, and I have a lot of Macedonian friends here but they ****** up in 99, they decided to suck up to US and take in all of Kosovo’s Albanians, which happend to stay in Macedonia. I hope they get smarter and when we decide to kick them out, they should follow.
