    Who’s O’ Riley?

Irish loud mouth, head of Ryanair – you know!

I had no idea TV advertisiing was a sign of things being bad for airlines – bad news for Jet2, British Airways, easyJet, Qantas and all those other airlines that have advertised on television….

Given Ryanair have not previously advertised on TV (at least as far as I am aware in our area anyway), I am rather surprised that they’ve now found it necessary to start using this rather expensive channel to market – that’s all. They are going to have to sell an aweful lot of £1 flights (this is waht they seemed to be advertising) in order to pay for the commercial… Or more accurately, they’re going to have to charge a lot of punters for checkin, and baggage, to pay for the advert! 😉

Sorry, didn’t get any photos, the weather and light were awful, dull, overcast and misty…:(

    -Dazza

    Excuses, excuses!

The real reason why Dazza didn’t get any photos is that its so long since he last used his camera, he’s forgotten how it works! :p 😉

Either that, or the mechanism has jammed up due to lack of use!

Both of their brand new 777Fs also went into storage at Marana, AZ earlier this week.

RDC, I don’t think this is the right thread to continue a debate about the wider issues of low-fare carriers. Happy to do this in another topic if you wish, as I do have views about the issues in your response. Maybe I will start another topic when I get a few moments!

As the TOM and FCA 767s appear to have different seat configs, IF the flight is allocated to an FCA aircraft (and your post above appears to suggest that it is) then its extremely likely that you will indeed get one of those aircraft simply because changing config at the last minute messes up all sort of things for the airline – like pre-paid pre-assigned seats (different configs means different seat numbers, different rows have extra room/bulkheads, etc).

However just a minor note of caution – I presume that the TOM a/c have a higher capacity than the FCA a/c, so if they have operational problems with the assigned FCA aircraft (eg. it goes tech or is running really late) and they have a spare TOM a/c available, its not beyond the realms of possibility that a last minute sub occurs.

And how many have already lost their jobs in the industry (or are now subject to substantially diminished salary and working conditions) as a result of O’Riley managing to con the stupid into believing he always offers the cheapest product? Don’t get me wrong – I am no socialist (and indeed I do believe that the low-fare sector did some good in bringing down historically too-high air fares) and I think O’Riley has been very clever in what he’s done, but as I said, in the longer term I believe that the industry as a whole would be better off without one or two of the sharks that inhabit the bottom end of the market, and IMHO Ryanair is at the bottom of the bottom.

That literally has to be the most retarded comment I have read on this very forum! 🙁

Not retarded at all, merely an opinion. Whilst I have no desire to see anyone hurt or worse, the demise of that airline will be both something I would be pleased to see and ultimately something that I genuinely believe will be better for the industry in the long term.

Probably somewhat too soon – even if there is someone on the inside prepared to tell…

When I was at bmi, the aircraft plots went out about three days but that was on shorthaul. Longhaul, the plots go out further because of the nature of the trip lengths. However, such is aviation, even if a specific aircraft was already allocated for that trip, from ten days out things can and quite probably will change – all it needs is an aircraft running late, or a minor technical niggle that requires an aircraft into a specific base at a specific time for a fix, and the plots will change.

Maybe by 20th, IF there is someone here in the know, then what they know stands a better chance (but still no guarantee) of actually happening.

To be honest, I think you’re getting far too wrapped up in all of this… Sit back, relax, and enjoy the trip whatever aircraft in whatever config you get. Nothing you can do will change it, and if it isn’t what you want to hear you’ll only be unhappy for longer.

Not me spinnig at all RDC – just calling it like I see it.

YOU can try spin it as legitimate because it has happened elsewhere or because the runway has just reopened, but whether you like it not the change would have been NOTAMed and thus the pilots if they had been properly prepared have no excuse. I presume/hope that the drivers wil be well and truely hauled over the coals by their chief pilot.

Anyway, I see at as good news because the more bad news and f**kups this airline makes, the more the public will become cautious about using them.

I its indeed a WOA MD11F – these operate BRU-EMA-JFK for GEC – rather than a GEC aircraft. Not too badly damaged I gather and should be flying away in a couple of days.

I know equipment and cars go via DHL.

No, DHL just provide “express logistics” (i.e high priority spares, etc) to the teams during the season… The cars and major equipment are moved as above.

    Two different situations…

For the “Flyaway” races – Australia, Malaysia, China, Bahrain at the start of the seaon and Singapore, Brasil, Abu Dhabi at the end of the season:

    * Equipment is moved by 747F charted by the FIA (all teams except those that scored zero points previous season). UK team equipment now goes from EMA, this year using Singapore Cargo and Atlas Air – and continental teams went from Munich this year with Cargolux

    * Team staff go by commercial scheduled flights in most cases, drivers same although I understand which class they sit in varies!!!!

    For the “European” races:

    * Equipment goes by road, usually from one venue to the next

    * Teams go by commercial scheduled flights in most cases, drivers in many cases by exec jets

I was rather surprised to see to fields that close to London. Stapleford must of had 30+ ac parked there.

There are a number of busy GA airfields inside the M25 actually… Stapleford, Elstree, Denham and Biggin Hill come to mind immediately (plus of course the more commercial London City and London Heathrow!)

Anybody that takes risk where kids are concerned want stringing up IMO.

Anyone who takes ANY risks when flying is involved is beyond my comprehension. I have a PPL and own [part of] an aeroplane, and the concept of overloading it or knowingly busting the flying regs in any other way just is… beyond my comprehension. How anyone can get themselves into that sort of mess, I don’t know!
