According to BBC TV Midlands news this morning, it is flying over the Rolls Royce factory in Derby on Monday, so I guess that means at least that it’ll be in the UK next week.

Seems like the best solution to me would have been to decend to 10,000′, depressurise, open one of the doors, and chuck the body out :diablo:

Now they are hoping that the change of name will prompt an increase in users, particularly executive business flyers.

Well I hope that their plans include building a nice new longer hard runway then – Barton is closed quite often in the winter due waterlogging of its runways, and I can’t help but think that won’t impress business executives!

Well, considering that the Conservatives are making a fuss about this at the moment, its very difficult to find any real information about their thinking on their website – in fact, I can’t find it. Typical headline grab with no substance then! 😮

Anyhow, taxing frequent travellers will not reduce air travel but will simply move the extra costs to the consumer – as a regular travellers on business, my travel is viewed as a necessity by my company (we do have to justify our travel), and what we charge our customer will simply be adjusted to reflect increased travel costs. The ultimate end consumer is you and me, so at the end of the line we will all pay for this stupidity. I also cannot see how an individual can be taxed for business flying – it will be the business that will have to pay. Can you see a scenario where a person who has to travel for work then, as a result, has to pay much more tax to go on holiday? No, so business flying and personal flying will have to be treated seperately, which will create an interesting administrative challenge for the government.

I am concerned that targeting domestic UK flying in particular will simply move more travel back to cars, as in many cases the train isn’t a viable or price realistic alternative. Is moving people back to cars a good idea – oh, I forgot, they’re going to tax that more too! And anything that actually REDUCES air travel (rather than just constraining its growth) will put jobs at risk, which again I don’t think is a good thing – of couse, the tree-huggers will say that a few job losses are worth taking to save the planet, but I’m not so sure…

And taxing fuel is totally meaningless unless it applies globally. There are agreements on such matters anyway, but in any case most airlines will simply tanker fuel from the continent if fuel costs are substantially higher here than elsewhere – that in turn increaes fuel burn and creates more emmissions.

I suppose that the good news is that, if less people travel then slots at LHR will be easier to come by – with the possible ending of Bermuda II later this month, I guess that’ll make new trans-Atlantic entrants happy! 😮

    Interesting pics…

Why do Air Baltic aircraft have an arrow on the foreward fuselage – are the pilots that ****** that they don’t know which end is the front? :diablo:

The aircraft looks excellent (there’s a picture of it on UKAR in sunshine) but the photo is horrible. Why a.net is accepting photos with such poor contrast and colour management is beyond me – goes to show how broken their process is.

Watched “The Queen” (surprisingly watchable actually, especially considering I’m not a royalist) and “Casino Royale” (crap except for the chase scene at the start) on Luftwaffe flying Vancouver-Frankfurt earlier this week – ah the joys of J-class and VOD!!! 😉 Now I’m just about to take a look at “Borat” here at home.

According to FlightGlobal, BA have declined to continue paying for the site and the new customer for it, to use it as advertising space, is Emirates. Again according to FlightGlobal, the most likely option is for Emirates to stick a large model of an Emirates A380 in the same place as Concorde is/was!!! 😮 😡

To obtain Blue Plus status, you need to earn 20,000 miles on your Blue Diamond Card.

Diamond Club members only need 18,000 for silver… I believe that the correct figure is 3000 miles.

Not seen a single Zoom in YVR in the five days I’ve been here – the conference I’ve been at is at an airport hotel, so I’ve had a fairly good view. Maybe they don’t fly here in winter. KLM has been all 777. LH should be A343 (I flew out on D-AIGC in Star colours) but the return I’m on has just landed and its D-AIHP, an A346.

More “boozers and shaggers” (someone who works in the airport’s words, not mine!) infesting the EMA terminal… Great – NOT! 🙁

Not particularly bad news for the A380 program at this stage. Aside from freeing up resources, it also frees a few delivery slots to move forward some of the delayed pax A380s.

Interestingly, earlier this week I was talking to a well-placed person in one of the A380’s leading customer airlines, and that airline is very much looking forward to the aeroplane now. The airline is certain it will be a major benefit to them, the problems are now all in the past, and the positives are about to begin. And whilst I don’t want to turn this into an A-vs-B thing, the same person tells me that the 787 program is a bit of a basket case at the moment and its going to take some serious work from Boeing to get it to the customer on promise.

Actually, I’m going to Vancouver on Monday! 😎

    However, no Zoom for me – I’m flying j-class with Luftwaffe, sorry Lufthansa… 737-300 then A340-300 :p

Been upgraded several times, most often on BD and UA transatlantic services – I’ve never asked, each time its happened its been done “automatically” by the airline when I checked in, although in each case I was at the time an upper tier member of their frequent flyer programs. Last time it happened was when I was about to travel on a UA LHR-SFO service, and after I’d been checked in I picked up the boarding card off the desk and noticed my seat was something-C (aisle) rather than the A (window) seat I’d pre-booked. I was just turning round to have a whinge at the girl behind the desk when I noticed it said “business” on the top of the boarding card rather than “economy”… so I decided to keep walking and not push the point! 😎
