Yeah, but the car park I’m talking about at BHX is near the old terminal which is probably two miles or so from the current terminals (think of it as if the car park was at RAF Turnhouse in EDI terms). Most times, the car park is empty except for the ground and 1st floors as the old “Elmdon” terminal is now just used by freight forwarders and executive jets. The main car park near the current terminal is MUCH more expensive! 🙁

    wow great pic Andy! 😀
Well chuffed you got the first flight and that 96.4 brmb sticker (although small) stands out lol, may i ask where you took that? was it those steps by the ATC tower or…..?

Thanks… Taken from the top floor of the multi-storey car park – the car park on the Elmdon side of course! You have to be careful not to get the hangars in the shots, but all of the pics in this topic are taken from there including those on the first page. Parking is pay-and-display £3.70 all day (if you want to be honest!) so its not an expensive place to park if you arrive by road either.

Here’s the very first GermanWings flight from Cologne – service started today. Note the small “BRMB Shuttle” (radio station) sticker on the forward fuselage!

Yes, so do I. It was kicking around again this afternoon at about the same time as the first German Wings service arrived from Cologne – more pictures later maybe.

They have three, two based at Birmingham and one at Exeter.

Except that from what I understand they haven’t got enough crews qualified to fly them all yet 😮 The one at Exeter has recently been seen disguised as a Viking MD-80, and one of the two they’re using at BHX is a -700 cunningly painted in Astraeus colours!

I’m confused at the hybrid Flybe 146 though. How come they’ve managed to pop a bit of pale blue on the forward wheel cover and not anywhere else? Whats going on with that tiny Flybe logo at the front too?Is this aricraft one thats recently been taken back out of Air France colours at all? I’ve noticed they’ve still got AF scheme’s flying around even though they’re not a franchisee anymore.

No, its not a former Air France franchise a/c – the two that mainly worked the BHX-CDG route were G-JEBA and G-JEBB (I know, I flew on them often enough!) and they are still in Air France colours. G-JEBF is ex G-BTUY – they obviously didn’t have time to do a full paint job on it. Its also had its nose gear doors replaced – pics on a.net from mid-2004 show it with white nose gear doors.

Have flybe replaced the fuse titles of 737 with larger ones as didnt someone comment before they were small for fuse and poss stickets from a 146 etc? Now they seem to be a better large size??

    Good observation!

Checking out a.net, the first 737 a/c in FlyBe livery was SX-BBT, seen here:

They have DEFINITELY put larger forward fuselage titles on G-STRE as seen in my pics above, and I think it works much better like that too.

    Thanks for the comments!

It’s a shame you were not there a little earlier, i would of loved to have seen the EK 772, CO752 etc in your pics!

Yes, but (a) I can’t really skive off work earlier and (b) the sun isn’t really far enough round to make the Elmdon side work when the CO goes, although it might be OK for the EK. I only really like BHX in the afternoon when they are using 15 – photos don’t work so well when 33 is in use, which sadly is more usual than 15.

I may go back again tomorrow if the weather is nice because its German Wings launch and there’s talk they’re putting one-day-only special titles on one of their A319s for the flight.
