Its another picture that makes me feel old… 😮 It was taken from the old Brick Works before the new runway was built… I guess you young wipper-snappers don’t even remember the brick works at MAN??? 😮

Mmmm… Not convinced its an improvement. And I hate JP.net by the way – far too many popups!

Skymonster,
Can you let us know what scanner make/model you were using (and at what resolution) to get such good images from K64?
Thanks

Thanks for all the comments…
Dee747,
Its a Nikon Coolscan IV-ED (dedicated film scanner, not a flat-bed). I think it does something like 3000dpi – a full frame final scanned image from a 35mm slide come out at something around 4000 pixels across so I guess the maximum resultion might actually be 3500dpi (I obviously then downsize the image in Photoshop LE for posting on airliners.net and/or here). The scanner includes some software called Nikon Scan which will load as a Twain driver for Photoshop LE. It took quite a whileof messing with the software settings to get what I think are optimum settings for quality, smoothness and colour density, but now its all set up its just a case of clicking on the scan button.

Glad I have your attention, just been trawling on the dark side ( a.net) and found this blast from the past.
Thanks for publicising my picture – another one I scanned a couple of nights back! 🙂

My latest aquisition… 1/200 scale InFlight:

Allen, they do some FANTASTIC 707s too, but don’t get into Inflights – they’re adictive and they’re expensive (although buying from Dave and Pam softens the blow a bit, especially when I pick them up myself as I did this one!!!)

It’s scarey when I think I was just 10 yrs old when you snapped these off. God I feel old
You feel old??? 😮 I assure you I wasn’t 10 yrs old or anywhere close when I took those, so if you’re old what does that make me?

Where you standing on the perimeter? If so, is this spot still available (can probably guess post 9/11 but you never know).
Yes I was standing on the perimeter, and YES the spot is still available – its a small parking lot on Sunset Bvd, and they even play ATC on a MW frequency so you can tune in the car radio and listen! Yes, even now!
Only snag is that you used to be able to put ladders up against the fence. Now, they get a bit upset about ladders, so you either have to stand on the roof of the rental car (parked about a meter from the fence) or shoot through the fence – to be quite honest, with a bit of practice the latter isn’t difficult.
LAS on a fall or spring Sunday must be one of the best places for photos on the US – loads of gamblers going home broke, so plenty of north american chaters as well as the regular stuff, and a friendly relaxed attitude to spotting. Just book a hotel in advance if you’re there at the weekend – walk up rates on the weekend can get expensive.
