Does anyone have any idea how many museum visitors actually stop to watch films every attraction has one of varying length yet I never seem to see anyone watching them Cosford being the possible exception to this?
For me I think the best way of spending the money is to fix all the buildings, create more atmosphere with side displays and a diorama or two, make sure all the information is present and upto date and then make the museum more accessible both through increased opening of buildings and through better links to central areas of London. This could be done with bus services and advertising. After all that hopefully there should be enough left to fill a few gaps in the collection and an extension to Cosford’s runway. Personally don’t believe relocation is possible £23 million wouldn’t even cover the planning!
I seem to remember an excellent article in Flypast some years ago including many pictures of the Berlin Museum. I’m sure I’ve also seen pictures of the Do X wrecked post VE Day this may have been in the same article.
I enjoy many museums for many reasons, controversially the RAFM because of the atmospheric lighting!, The Yorkshire air museum down to it’s packed in feel and general aura and recently I enjoyed the Cold War building at Cosford. Obviously Duxford is high on the list as it’s constantly changing but also the land warfare hall is unbelievable. I also enjoy Norwich air museum for its intimate yet packed feel. Outside of air museums I love Beamish and the Black Country Living Museum and wonder if something similar could be done with an airfield where the buildings and people are the main focus.
Does anyone have any idea if they may display at any airshows further North? It seems that Duxford may well be the closest and that is at least a 500 mile round trip!
I’m no expert but having read this it doesn’t scream conspiracy! Surely if the deputy fuhrer lands and requests fuel no right minded person in Germany at that time would refuse or even be likely to question him.
The idea that rumours and hearsay have no place on here is wrong. As long as no one goes over the top and starts with personal attacks where’s the harm? I seem to remember a Canadian Mossie being almost sold and only kept after news got out.
Interesting topic shame to see the Typhoon go abroad does anyone know how long its for? I was wondering apart from minor scrapes has any aircraft been substantially damaged while in transit? I can think of a few that were lost on ferry flights but none damaged in transit.
I’ve finally gone from long term lurker to actually joining and actually don’t think there’s too much wrong with the board. Only annoyance is too many posters always jump on the negative rather than putting their expertise to find solutions. Surely with as many members as are here most things are possible!
