This is whats on defencetalk.com:
The reported price hike seems to be garbage…
Quote:
MiG29k deliveries to begin next year: Russian officialNew Delhi, Sept 29: Russia will start next year the delivery of MiG-29k fighter jets for the aircraft carrier Admiral Goroshkov which India is in the process of acquiring from Moscow….
Fedorov rubbished reports that Russia has hiked the price of the MiG-29k aircraft it has offered to India.
“MiG-29k price has not undergone any change,” he said.
Price for the contract per plane is around the $46 million mark – $32 million per plane aquisition, rest for support/training…
Wouldn’t of been surprised at a slight increase due to inflation as the contract was signed in 2005, but it seems to be the same.
You can get a lot of details on the setup for the Mig-29K’s at:
http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/NAVY/MiG-29K.htmlLot’s of extra’s, with French & Israeli systems added…
Sounds like a great aircraft for the price.Had heard they were in talks for a new radar – BARS-29(?) – which would add to costs, but apparently that’s for the second batch…
That news is old news, It was published on September of 2008. The news about price hike is new. Now why would you post it again after I have said this before ?
one of you Indian posters must have an F-35 in Indian markings somewhere don’t ya (or any other MRCA aircraft?)

“$75 million per Mig-29K”…
“60% Price Increase On MiG-29Ks for India”…
Do they come with a bunch of ‘Flux-Capacitors’ or something?…
F-35 for India?…I really don’t think they’d want to buy something like that, not when they’ll “Need permission” from the Americans to use them in anger, they wouldn’t even be allowed to update them the way they want for their own needs, it doesn’t look like the yanks will even share tech with us Brits, “Their Closest ally”, () so they sure as hell wouldn’t share it with the Indians. So, might as well cross that one off their list of toys. wishful thinking for anyone who thinks India will get the F-35. dream on!
F – 35 for India is a great possibility. Saying that it may not be part of the current MRCA deal. But keep in mind that India will have a whole bunch of Air Craft scheduled to be retired by 2020 including the Jaguars, Mig 29s and Mirages 2000s. And Lockheed Martin has said the only reason India is not being offered the JSF is because it won’t be ready in the time frame India wants the MRCA to be. They also said that f 16 would mean future upgrade to JSF. I can see IN and IAF getting JSF after 2020.

Only if they want to, carrier kick ass at sea, but as soon as you get within range of a decent land based airforce they’re back on even terms, if not disadvantaged by the fact that their “airbase” can be sunk.
4-5 carriers and assorted battle groups means a lot of aircraft and a lot of anti air, and a lot of marines. Err very hard for even PLAAF to try and engage.
Rubbish because this news is older than the one which mentions the escalation of the price.
🙂

I didn’t even bother mentioning the complete overkill with the US forces, don’t know all the numbers and types involved but i guess it could be useful when u need to drive continent to continent across flat tops
The overkill is good tbf.Suppose if China gets too aggressive about Taiwan, Park 4-5 Carriers around it and chances are they will back off pretty fast.
India will need her 3 carriers for her ambitious plan to have a blue water navy. This could also act as a strong deterrent against China who is going to have her carriers.
We are not talking about a substantial order, so no chance of license production in India.

Point 2 about India not being able to afford JSF is utter nonsense.
