So do I. From what I have read on this forum the IAF seems incapable of resisting the temptation to amend the specification of the aircraft. No manufacturer can be expected to ever finish developing a product if the customer’s requirement is never frozen.
The current government is very committed to the LCA. The defense minister has recently announced that no matter what at least 140 ac will be bought, of this only 40 will be MK1. I do not think they will allow the IAF to shift its goal posts again regarding the MK2. But the elections are due next year we are hoping the opposition shows the same commitment towards the LCA if it comes to power.
I do not for a moment think India will be willing to give Russia any more leverage by buying a Russian type for MRCA.
Mind Says Rafale or Super Bug.
Heart Wants F 16.

I Chose F 16 because. No one is going to choose it. So if the IAF chooses it i will prolly win this :dev2:

Actually as per the report in Hindu (by Ravi Sharma whom I hate for delivering bad news) the IAF requirements go far beyond the engine of a higher thrust. They want avionics and other upgrades. Check the LCA thread in this site or BR.
😀 Saying that I am optimistic it will all come together before 2014-15. But I do not have unrealistic ambitions about Tejas.

the new carriers will be using a new Chinese aircraft. Only 2 Su-33s were ordered.
Probably carrier based J 11s which are hardly any different. :rolleyes:
Then their design must not be based on the Varyag. So China’s first carrier will be similar in capacity to QE2/Charles De Gaulle. That will be quite a feat if they can achieve it.
:rolleyes:
USAF will have superiority over all airforces in the world it goes to war with, either technological or numerical.
So a better scenario is when countries with Russian and American weapons go to war. Like India or Pakistan will test Mig 29 (upgraded and well kept fleet) against Pakistani f 16s.
Or IF malaysia goes to war with Singapore. Japan with China etc. 🙂

In perhaps 5 years, the PAF will be receiving J-10s, which for the most part, will be superior to the Su-30MKI in all aspects except range.
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Would you please care to elaborate how it will be superior to the Su 30 MKI. The F7s will hardly see WVR combat against the MKI or Mirage 2000s. And in 5 years India will have 230 MKIs. The Mirage 2000s will be upgraded to the 2000-5 standard. Mig 29s to the SMT standard. The first batch of MRCA would have been inducted. 20-40 LCA delivered. The first two Phalcon AWACS operational etc. If you stretch the timeframe of the conflict up by years, IAFs superiority only increases several fold.

Your Optimism is commendable, I do think the Tejas will make it but I do not share your level of optimism.
