    There is more than an inkling of truth to the statement.

    1. Israel was founded on a racist ideology. (mass deportation of non jews)

    2. Your “short sharp shock” has lasted since 1948.

    In my life i have seen the Israelis, do everything to the Palestinians, that the nazis did to the jews, EXCEPT employing “the final solution”
    But then again, it is the logic extension of Israels foreign policy since 1948.

    Do you believe in karma ?

    I do.

    1. Creation of the Israel whether you are against it or not is an issue of the past. Its time people learnt that Israel is a cold hard reality whether they like it or not.

    2. I don’t know another country which was attacked within hours after it was founded. And i do not think the Jews after what they have been through was ready to go back to become a homeless people again.

    3. For that first learn what the Nazis have done to the Jews. Jews were executed at random even before the so called final solution, they were used for medical experiments and as slave labour. Where have Israel done all that. It is for its part willing to negotiate, but how can any self respecting Jew negotiate with a bunch of holocaust deniers ?

    And whom is going to enforce that rule? I think the PLAN can safely ignore any civil litigation in Ukraine in regards to the status of the Varyag. Further more the line between a “training” carrier and active commissioned fleet carrier is a pretty blurry one. Getting her ready to go to sea as a training carrier and getting her ready to support an airgroup as an operational naval unit are pretty much the same thing if you ask me.

    Not as easy as that. China may need Ukraine in the future, after all they have a lot of tech and industries from the Soviet times and natural resources aplenty. I do not think China is going to violate the deal.

    I will believe this when I see metal being cut and fabricated.

    However where there is smoke there is fire. Su-33 orders and extensive work on Varyag tell me that carriers are part of the long term plan for the Chinese Navy.

    I think a decade is a more realistic time frame to see this kind of platform enter service. Not only is this a huge untertaking from a shipbuilding point of view there will be a multitude of training and equipment issues that will be needed to be straightened out before they go to sea in a meaningful way.

    I think Varyag will enter some sort of service and she will be underway under her own power. Satellite shots can’t look through a steel deck and we only have speculation as to what is happening below decks. I have a feeling that in a couple of years she will be at sea in some form.

    There is an agreement that Varyag must not be used as a combat vessel.

    Well at least someone has the honesty to say what it’s all about instead of hiding behind moronic BS such as Israel is “defending” itself from firecrackers.

    In the last 6 months, Israel has killed 40 Palestinians in Gaza for the loss of a grand total of 0 (Zero) Israelis. The current ratio is 100 : 1.

    There was another Army that practiced the same type of retribution in WWII which also carried out a similar operation in a certain gheto.

    Gaza = Warsaw Gheto
    IDF = Waffen SS

    Thats taking it a bit too far,

    What? Didn’t you know the Chinese have been studying ccarrier design for decades? How could their carrier have design flaws, least of all critical ones? 😀

    :D;) great point.

    Yes but i was talking about the finished product. Seems a much better design than the Russian counterparts of similar or more tonnage.

    I think the French Charles De Gaulle is one of the best bang for buck AC out there. Only 40 K tons and 40 AC. Very Impressive, cheaper to operate than a super carrier and yet carries a considerable Punch.

    Umm… don’t ask me! That seems reasonable but I really haven’t a clue. Carrier design is not where my main interest lies, though I am very interested in their geopolitical significance. I suppose it would depend entirely on her layout; they’re guaranteed to have ski jumps but I don’t imagine there’s a lot else that could be predicted about that at the moment. My utterly uninformed guess would be that they’d probably be somewhere in-between a Kuznetsov and a CVF but I think that’s just a result of my mind searching for references and jamming together whatever’s available.

    Also, what’s the tonnage of Varyag (or at least Varyag as she would be complete)?

    50-60 tons according to Wiki. With 66 as max. According to some agreement the Varyag was never to be refitted for combat.

    Commander JB,

    Do you know how many jets these will be able to carry. 50-60K means the tonnage is similar to the British QE2 class so can we expect 30-40 Su 33s ?

    The Super Hornets will eventuality be replace by F-35’s and very possibly UCAV’s something like the X-47B. Really, it was designed as a bridge until the arrival of the F-35 and future Stealthy Types.

    Which is pretty much the route Australia will be taking over the next coming decades………coincidentally, just like everyone else. The SHs will serve the USN (and RAAF well) for the next 20 years or so but will then be replaced themselves with UCAVs like the X-47 as the F-35 takes over as the teeth of the manned force and the unmanned become the primary platform for strike and countermeasures.

    But, as the Aus posters here have already told us, unless Australia can belt-strap the country to get a couple of squadrons of F-22s then their country is finished. One must then assume that Aussie emigration to the U.S, Canada, and South America will soon begin in haste, so, I will be investing heavily in real estate until that time comes.

    What idiocy Australia is Protected by the U.S. As long as that continues it has absolutely no threats.

    The Arabs are divided along the Sunni, Shia lines and will stay that way forever. Saddam tried to me the Saladin of the present and failed miserably. At the moment Israel is having more problems with the Persians and the Persian backed Arabs than its other Arab neighbours.
