A weapon of war is rarely useless but often redundant. A sword can still kill very effectively, but most soldiers today don’t need to carry one. Hence redundant, a battleship is still a formidable weapons platform and a very resilient too, but it is too big, too obvious and not as effective as a carrier. So if you need a big ship, you go for the carrier, not the battleship, hence redundant.

can there be more usage for the 25 and the 31? Yes, sure. Is it worth it? Probably not. The thing with combat jets is that they retain the same allure as classic cars. But they are a heck more expensive to keep using than an old Jag simply because they were pretty good when they came out.

They burn more fuel. They need more parts, they need more maintenance, they need different training perhaps, more ground crew also perhaps. All in all, it costs more.

Take the Greek F-4AUP. For all intends and purposes it is like having a two seater F/A-18 in your inventory. Carries the same weapons and has the same avionics.

But does it cost the same? the answer is NO. It costs more …

I understand as of the mid 1990s and introduction of AMRAAM, the mig-25/31 was certainly completely outdated but in the late 70s and 80s is a different scenario.

The way Soviet Air Force used it. Guess why?

THE PVO biggest threat was high flying bombers for which foxbats were designed, if that threat does not exist is the foxbat COMPLETELY redundant ?

if they can , Iranians despite their anti-western rhetoric still go for US aircraft before any other
likely F-15 and /or super hornets

I would say Mirage III/V is the most versatile
    F-5 A/B or F-5 E ? which one is included

To answer the original question no; With decent payload and fuel, they are very unlikely to do 5+Gs let alone 9.

    ^ thank you very informative

How is the MiG-31/ 25 only useful against bombers and spy planes ?

What about its usefulness against F-4s/ F-15s laden with bombs /PGMs ? attacking soviet Russian targets in a 80s and pre-AMRAAM era atleast the R-33s will force the attackers to abandon their ordanance to increase their agility to evade the missiles. Maybe if these attackers ( F-4s and F-15s) launch their SARH against MIg-31s then both sides take defensive measures disengage and the encounter ends ? Furthermore didn’t the MIG-31 had the ability to share information with other fighters ? that would enable atleast some missles to be launched from other mig-31s ( which don’t have to use their radars) which might catch the attackers offguard.

Usefulness of Mig-31/25 against USAF /USN is questionable which can afford separate interceptors/attack planes and also supporting airplanes however against smaller nations like japan turkey etc where their aircraft have to act dual role the mig-31/25 might be very useful, as it they would in an escort fighter role keep either the interecptors busy while the attacking su-24s pummel the ground targets or in the pure interceptor role enemy attack planes and pick them off at long range while the attackers are loaded with fuel and bombs.

MiG-25RB pics with bombs and MiG-25PDS with aphids R-60s are pretty classic

Iraqis probably hav most combat experience with the type, any former Iraqi foxbat pilots here ?

There are many potential scenarios in which MiG-23 ML/MF/MD and delta mirage Kfir/5/50 /III derivatives could have met in combat
    in the 80s
    Angola vs SAAF
    Pak vs India
    Israel vs Syria
    Libya vs Egypt
Nato ( Belgium e.g) vs WP countries

does anyone else have any input on such potential encounters

^ AK-47 is also a lethal killer unlike the Yak-38 which is in many ways simply an experimental aircraft

^ its not confirmed that PAF F-16 even sot down one Mig-23, they did down Su-22 mig-21 and su-25
PAF also shot ots own F-16 in friendly fire
Their Mirages did not tangle with migs as far as I know

In 80s and early 90s the Mig-23MF and ML the advantage of better avionics, BVR weapons and more powerful engine vs the Kfir/mirage III/50
The deltas may have an advantage in better dogfight missiles
