^ Yes they were loaned from Egypt to Iraqi AF
The Su-15 and MiG-25 were too slow for the F-4 at lower altitudes and had no loiter capability there. Just the later MiG-23P and MiG-31 had that.
MiG-25 and F-4 have clashed in the iran-iraq war when both sides used them as fighters , why is this scenario so unlikely in Japan vs USSR esp if Japan is the aggressor ( leaving aside the political ramifications of such an event)
Su-15 is an interceptor as we all know and may be used to attack JSDF P-3 orions or strikers like F-1 and F-4 if they are within range
There is a huge difference between Mirage based deltas between the late 1970’s to early 1990’s, when it comes to certain important features.
Take as an example the difference between the Mirage V and the Cheetah C which fit into that time period.
ok lets leave the Cheetah series out only Mirage III all variants/Nesherdagger/Kfir all variants/Mirage 50 vs MiG-23MS/MF/ML
By 1980s Israeli Kfirs were primarily ground attack orientated with air defence being focus of F-15 and F-16 so no air combat.
Only Mirage v MiG-23 combat I’m aware of is Iran-Iraq and Angolan Wars and then it was Mirage F1.
Also AIM-120 has not been exported to third world (as in poor countries) other than Pakistan and Morrocco. Only AIM-120 kills have been made by USAF and Netherlands.
Yes it was an F1 which is not a delta
mirage
I think the iraqi AF did have the Mirage 5 given to them by Egypt though
Any pics of Yak forgers operating from merchant or cargo ships ?
Correct and that were limited to attacks against landing forces of the SU Pacific off the Japanese coast. Hence the name Japan Self-Defense Forces.
All that well outside the range of SU PVO interceptors like the Su-15 or MiG-25P. 😉
I know but what if Japan aggressively attacks the russian naval bases in the far east the most likely fight will be between PVO interceptors and F-4s
Nonsense. The size of the country in mind it was just a regiment for a given sector. Their main task was to deal with all possible ingress routes of western bombers equipped with atomic weapons or aicraft from carrier task forces not covered with SAM-sites and do the air-policing duty in peace-time.;)
Well Japan does not have any atomic equipped bombers so what are the Su-15s supposed to do in such a war ? The only aircraft capabale of interdiction that japan has is the F-4 and F-1, while F-15 served in the air defence roles
any info of Foxbat kills during the Gulf War ? did they get anything other than a F-18 ?
su-15 was a fighter for the big war, so the individual fighter may be mediocre by western standards but a mass of them would be quite a potent threat to western attack planes
E.g COnsider a war in Pacific between Japan and USSR in the 80s, the attacking F-4s would have to deal with hundreds of Flagons and that would disrupt their missions and force them to dump their offensive ordance to escape the interceptors
USSR in the mid 80s had ~ 400 flagons and nearly 500 Foxbats
Isnt it also true that most of the MiG-23 lost in combat in libya/USN , Iran-Iraq and Arab-Israeli conflicts were the MS and MF early varients and very few of the ML and MLD
who cares ! its a good fictional scenario IMHO
Thank you very helpful
this is what I found on wikipedia
The MiG-25 was in service with the Iraqi Air Force during the Iran–Iraq War, but its success against Iranian fighters is largely unknown. Research by journalist Tom Cooper shows that as many as 14 MiG-25s may have been shot down by Iranian fighters during the period from 1978 to 1988,[27][28][29][page needed] although it is difficult to determine the validity of these claims. Iraqi MiG-25s made their first kill against Iran in February 1983, when an Iraqi MiG-25PD shot down an Iranian C-130. On 21 March 1984, an Iraqi MiG-25PD shot down an Iranian F-4E and on 5 June 1985 an Iraqi MiG-25PD shot down a second Iranian F-4E. On 23 February 1986 an Iraqi MiG-25PD shot down an Iranian EC-130E and on 10 June an RF-4E, later in October 1986, an Iraqi MiG-25PDS shot down a second RF-4E.[30] The most successful Iraqi MiG-25 pilot of the war was Colonel Mohommed “Sky Falcon” Rayyan, who was credited with 10 kills
Not sure what the source is for these claims

Mirage 4000 for the saudi airforce
Thanks Nastle, its always a pleasure to hear good things about my ideas. I’ve been dreaming about military strategy and tactics from the age of 7 and this is sort of the thing I dig and consequently appreciate a pat in the back so to speak.
If you recall the armed helo attacks of the Syrians in the Bekaa Valley even with a complete superiority of the IDF-AF and how effective they were despite the attrition, I think there just may be a role for CAS still left against a well-armed conventional enemy.
You don’t need an A-5 for tactical battlefield nukes. Pakistan builds basketball sized tactical nukes and uses these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasr_%28missile%29 to deliver them.
.
You are welcome !
I think of such things all the time, like a multi-role Su-15 ( instead of a specialized su-25) which has rival capabilities of F-5E.
The incident of syrian helos might have been more effective since IDFAF was engaged else where ( but I could be wrong all I know about is the Tom cooper article on acig)
The CAS you are refering to may be much more effective at night, but the what kind of an avionics fit would be needed for such a configration ? Esp since most IAF fighters in the 90s were day fighters.
These smaller tactcial nukes are very new addition to pak army, I was refering to a late 90s scenario.
