lol not really a game , i like to dabble in late cold war fictional scenarios
mine are not mind blowing ww3 NATO vs WP like scenarios but more mundane , realistic ones relating to “brush fire wars”
they rarely involve any big powers directly fighting each other but rather heavy use of proxies
e.g this particular one I was working on is a civil war in sudan circa 1988 in which both egypt and ethiopia get involved and get logistical help from USSR and some other WP states

so lets say during the cold war if F-15s or F-16s are flying in combat with a full load of A2G munitions then they would need escorts to protect them even against 2nd rate enemy fighters like mig-23/25 ?

^ the Shtorm was a pretty big missile with a respectable range , maybe thats why ASW ships like Kara and Kresta II were not given 4 inch guns or dedicated missiles for ASUW work as both had > 40 shtrom missiles and in case of emergency can be used for ASUW work
    what do you think ?

kyndas could launch all their 8 missiles in a single salvo , even by 1980s would this not be a significant threat to 2nd rate surface ships i.e those w/o standard SAM or AEGIS system ?

The scenario should go the MiG-23’s way. BVR capability. Better agility and turn-rates at medium-to-low altitudes. What gives one pause, is the MiG’s godawful handling, poor ergonomics & cockpit visibility. The Mirage would also have the advantage of the Aim-9L, which was the best IR missile of it generation by far.

I suspect the IAF pilot would much rather go into the same fight at the stick of a MiG-21bis.

how widespread was the AIM-9L in 1990 in airforces like PAF , egyptian or turkish airforces ?

    thanks for the info

but why do the russians want to use an-26, an-32, an-74 to carry bombs , rockets and cannons surely they have much better platforms cheaply available to do the job

I can understand why smaller nations , or war torn nations use these antonovs in civil wars or makeshift solution when they do not want to risk their fighter-bombers
    ?
