thanks Ozair
rough idea ?
I bet 5-6 mil for mig-23 and 10-15 mil for f-16
any takers ?
^ so even though R-33 is a SARH missile due to foxhounds radar ( basic mig-31 right not mig-31b) it can direct 4 missiles at 4 different targets ?
Flagon can also carry gunpods for short range missions right ?
Thank you
Did the Mig-31 and tornado ADV have that ability in the 1980s ? i.e target 4 aircraft at the same time ?
Su-15 can carry 4 x K-8 I thought it carried 2 with 2 x R-60 ?
Also it seems like a lot of Su-15 regiments later in the cold war were in the far east , were they deployed with an eye towards china as they were qualitatively better than what chinese have to offer and a threat to their strike planes like H-5 and A-5 bombers ?
Were the Udaloy I destroyers in the 80s equipped to fire SSN-15 and SSN-16 ASW missiles through their torpedo tubes ?
^ so they could target ships at night with anti-ship missiles ? but had no other PGM ?
BTW, the Kyndas had eight ready missiles and eight reload missiles.
but I’ve read they could not reload at sea
Sea Sparrow was really effective against missiles.
Did you mean NOT very effective
The early Sea Sparrow with Mk115 director was man steered and not able to shoot down missiles. The more modern Mk91 director may be theoretical able to do it, but I am sure it was not really effective against missiles
.
When do you think the more modern Mk91 director was common ? in the late 80s
The flight path of P-35 was unfavorable for Sea Sparrow and better suited for Terrier and Tartar. The P-35 flew with 1.3 mach, the reaction time was very short for Sea Sparrow. P-35 flew around 100m above sea for the last miles to the ship. It was removed in 2003. There were enough replacements for P-35 around in the Soviet/Russian Navy much earlier and why it was not replaced? It seems it was still effective.
So sea sparrow was essentially point defence ? could an average 80s DD or FFG with 1 sea sparrow launcher with 2 directors shoot down 6 -8 P-35s ? if not then it seems like each kynda can knock out two DD or FFG !
BTW thank you so much for answering my questions I really appreciate the valuable info esp about the P-35
^ 250 km striaght meaning w/o OTH guidance ?
but the flight profile of P-35 was such that it was very easy to intercept for lets says sea sparrow SAM ?
^ Thanks
there is an impression created by western “experts” that none except for the SAN6 and SAN9 had any realistic chance of intercepting the Harpoon
Defensive armament comprises 2 x 2 Storm-M long range SAM launchers,
Can these missiles have a secondary function as anti-ship missiles ( ASUW) ?
2 Osa VLS short range SAM launchers,
can these missiles intercept ASM like Harpoon ?
Also it seemed like Kiev , Minsk carried 16 x P-500 , NOVOROSSIYK 8 x P-500 and BAKU 12 x P-500 does that seem accurate ?
^ NO f-117 WERE in service of gulf states
can anyone please post pics of Mirage III and 5 in PAF service from the 70s and 80s ( before the upgrades ) PLEASE and thank you
The Mirage F1 was a very good multi-role fighter, a relatively cheap alternative to the late production F-4E, and altogether superior to any comtemporary Soviet fighter before the MiG-29.
As a multirole aircraft yes definately superior
but was Mirage F1 fighter versions capable of shooting down
1-Mig-25
2-Mig-23ML/P
any instances of that happening ?
