Thank you
Do you have any information on Turkish f16 in 1980s operating Sparrows ?
It was used by F4E or F16 ?
Is this range of 300 miles with external fuel tank ? or without ?
.can they carry general purpose bombs? If so what is the max payload ?
Thanks paralay
So 1 PTB means one external tank combat radius in air to air role (im guessing 6 AAM) is 536 km ? Roughly 330 miles
Just clarifying I’m just an amateur sorry
I agree but what do you think of mig29A capability in escort role even for short range missions of soviet bombers?
I mean they can only escort out naval tu16 and tu 22 only 200 mile or so ,then they will have launch their missiles or risk going unescorted
I know the flanker was designed for the escort role but they were so few that it is inevitable that the fulcrums will be asked to fulfill some of those missions
Thank you very much
Can you please give me an idea of the source of these stats
So really in the far East mig 29 was just useful for point defence interceptor of naval and army bases
Can be used as an escort for AVMF bombers as they cruise at high altitude and it may increase its range to maybe 300 to 400 miles. And at that time they will turn back to base and the bombers will launch their 250 mile range cruise missiles and return to base as well.
With centerline tank it’s 300 miles ?
Mig29A range is only 300 miles with full weapon load of 6 AAM?
I would like the opinion of other members to this
The comparison of Mirage III/5 and Mig-23MS is more valid as
They have roughly similar A2A weapon systems
They have similar avionics
A2G weapons I think Mirage is superior to Mig-23MS
And aerodynamically and their flying characteristics they need to be compared , any input there is truly appreciated
Mirage F1 and MiG-23ML/MLD are kind of similar but that’s a separate discussion
so 2 x 23 mm cannons
8 x 76 mm rockets
2 x 100kg bombs
is the typical load in CAS role ?
Yes, simultaneous tracking of four targets using R-33s.. plus tracking of another four whose coordinates can be transmitted to other fighters or SAM systems
this should have made mig-31 a really important part of air defence of USSR in 80s
can they transmit coordinates to mig-29 or su-27 ?
^thanks a lot
Thanks but the inboard pylon looks like fuel tanks not bombs
