I have come across parts from an Albemarle that carry Whitley part numbers, the only I have to hand is an alloy bracket carrying the number SP67958 1 C7887.

Going back to the original query, most of the remaining wreckage from LJ628 was recovered on the 24th Jan.

The have put a few photos on my web site, http://www.peakdistrictaircrashes.co.uk showing the final preparations the day before the recovery.

For photos of the actual recovery you will have to wait for the Stirling Project to publish a newsletter on their web site.

The only reports / record cards you should be able to get hold for this aircraft are the Air Ministry Form 1180 and AM F-412 or F-765c the 1180 can be ordered from Hendon but the other two (if they still exist) would be with AHB at Bentley Priory. If there was a full investigation the report is now lost, along with all the accident reports for RAF aircraft from the end of Jan 44 through to the end of Dec 44, the PRO either lost or were never given reports numbered W1751 to W2080 which covers pretty much all of 1944.

If you get the 1180 it should show if there was a full investigation on the left hand side of the first sheet where file numbers are recorded for 765c and AIB reports (the ones lost by someone).

As has already pointed out everyone is entitled to their own view.

However I must make it clear there are a large number of people who feel it is morally wrong to sell parts from crashed aircraft, particularly where crew were killed, even for charity.

I know it is all too easy to find parts for sale from digs and high ground sites, but it doesn’t make it right, legally or morally.

Also there isn’t much that can be done with the crystalline corrosion products found on Warton Marsh, it wouldn’t even be possible to smelt them.
