Keeps referring to dozens of aircraft. From over 220 built.
    20million a pop.

Argentina should of look at it, before the F1 announcement

Didn’t you see the (est)? That means APA made it up. where are the legacy aircraft going with 50% fuel and no pods?

    In general

“Air Vice-Marshal Osley, 2012 : Air Power Australia analysis is basically flawed through incorrect
assumptions and lack of knowledge of classified F-35 performance information. Without
this knowledge, APA and RepSim can only speculate on the F-35’s capabilities and its
ability to counter extant and evolving threats.”

APA. do not even go there…. They have no idea. time after time after time

But how much airframe life left in them. And which weapons are cleared for use??
They would need to update them surely??

Good thing i guess. 🙂 It really needs to work and i hope the Navy gets EPE Engines to. Unfortunately we’ll see what happens in August or September.

More thrust for all the extra weight for the mods.

The Australians have had all manner of issues with them.

Eurocopter’s even thrown in a free MRH-90 as compensation for late delivery, major problems with navigation systems, problems with engines (faulres due to overheating), windscreen cracking, as well as the floor issues,

    And from Wiki

    Australia should’ve gone for UH-60M/S.

    Absolutely or the S-92s
Tigers are also crap. Should have gone with the Apache.

The type 26 from the UK would be good option buy 9 fit 3 for AAW role and the other 6 fitted for general purpose. As for the Subs buy 8 diesel subs have 6 crews and aim to have 4 to 5 operational at any one time these need to be back up by good MPA’s and given Australia’s coast I feel a mix of C295 and P-8 would be better than P-8 and Global hawk as C295 can carry out Maritime patrol and SAR roles

Type 26 would require american weapons. as per what the RAN use now. There needs to be several options to be envisaged during its evolution. Great concept at this stage.
Agree with the eight submarines totally. The costs savings could be diverted into other RAN projects.

How would it stand up against a Growler or a attack from a EMP weapon.
Great technology. But its a game of counter the other sides toys.

They’re still plugging the daft 12 submarines line – though that makes sense as the Australian Submarine Corporation is a Labor Party jobs creation scheme for South Australia and Labor is all about unprofitable work creations schemes (I stupidly voted for them in 2007).

They’ve struggled getting those 6 Collins class subs operational or fully manned, and now they’re going for 12.

Personally I would’ve brought another 3 destroyers instead and have them installed with Tomahawk cruise missiles.

That’s a far better deterrent than 12 “dry dock queen” submarines that probably won’t work.

The reason the collins class was having trouble. Was the lack of funds to do routine maintenance. Plain and simple you need to keep them up to date and serviced correctly.
8 new submarines and a fourth AWD would be a better mix of defence and offence.
Replace the armidales with something a lot bigger in the corvette size also.

RAAF classifies Growlers as support aircraft.

Is an electronic attack aircraft a combat aircraft? Not according to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), which is classifying its forthcoming squadron of Boeing EA-18G Growlers as a support force distinct from its air combat units.

Its move is raising the possibility that the 12 electronic attack aircraft will add to its fast-jet fleet instead of substituting for part of it—although the move may not persuade the government to pay for more fast jets than it has planned

cancel the Thunderbirds’ entire 2013 season beginning April 1.
Effective today, active-duty, Reserve and Guard units will cease all aviation support to the public. This includes the cancellation of support to all air shows, tradeshows, flyovers (including funerals and military graduations), orientation flights, heritage flights, F-22 demonstration flights and open houses, unless the event includes only local static assets.

Soon they will have to justify every hour flown

We know that the new announcement cannot possibly be referring to the previously-mention and completed sale because, contrary to the misleading title of this thread, this announcement is ONLY a REQUEST for pre-approval of a POSSIBLE sale on 12 F/A-18Fs, 12 EA-18Gs, and all associated equipment!

Id say your right. Possible sale. 24 F/A 18Es or Fs would be more appropriate to retire some classic hornets.
Personally would like to see all single seater’s.
24 Growlers seems like an over kill to me
