In respect of Australia add their vast mineral wealth and a surprisingly paranoid outlook about their South Pacific neighbours – just have a look at the APA website if you are unsure about that paranoia.

In respect of the RAF indeed once the Hercules are gone the transport fleet will be rather weighted towards heavy lift. A400M is being sold as having a tactical capability so I think we need to give it a chance but as for something smaller I doubt there is any serious thought being put to it. Certainly nothing until after 2015 SDSR, the BAE 146 are a stop gap to support UK forces in Afghanistan with the C130K on its way out. I don’t see the type being held in service much after the draw down from Afghanistan.

So it is kind of suck it and see! We might see some movement on the matter in the future but there are many other more important things to budget for at the moment. I agree that if we adopt something like C295 as an MPA/ASW type there would be some synergies adopting some cargo only variants.

Kopp and Goon paranoia only. No one believes or listens to ADA.

It will be interesting to see what they get back for full life cycle cost estimates. Recent ADF history with platforms like the NH-90 and Tiger is that manufacturer supplied cost estimates are, at best, “optimistic”. Given the driver being this, I guess politically they are bound to gather cost data from vendors, even if the “real” numbers are supplied by allies already operating those aircraft.

Very true… In the long run the Apache would have been cheaper. And in full operations. Not like the Tiger

The only role would be a defense agreement that was in place. EG: Australia required assistance from Briton.
Or old or ex colonies requesting assistance.

The F22 is the bench mark for 5th gen aircraft.
It was designed in the 90s on 90s tech.
All subsequent designs have been copied or have been influenced designs.
Its like the F35 gets banged up all the time. But all new designs have been influenced by the F35 also.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I would like to see all designed reach there potential.
I would like to see the F22 evolved further. But thats never going to happen.

It wouldn’t be a problem at all. The US/JAP/AUS relationship would work well
US weapon systems on Japanese subs..
Time for Japan to export some military hardware and or technology.

I’ve always said the Agusta A129 Scorpion (aka A129 Mangusta International) to meet Project AIR87!!
It was already in operational service, when the Tiger was still only in prototype stage!
I really have to question the people who make these decisions and get paid the big bucks!!
Not would have the A129 Scorpion have already been in Australian operational service, Im admit it would have already have been deployed to the Ghan!!
I’m sad to say its another case of the ADF being obsessed with ‘bling’ rather than reality:mad:

Waste of money. Apache would have been better. And in full service too. Not a prototype with AUS as the Guinea pigs

Key problems outlined by the military include excessively limited ground clearance that prohibits soldiers’ entry and exit except when on hard surfaces that are free of obstacles greater than 16 centimeters. Within the cabin, the seats are considered capable of accommodating only soldiers who weigh less than 110 kilograms with their gear. The German Army’s latest Infantrie der Zukunft (Future Soldier) personal equipment weighs 25 kilos.
Limited internal dimensions mean that an infantry team can be carried only if team members leave their personal weapons and kit on the floor, where the items cannot be secured. The floor has proven so sensitive that it can be damaged by dirty boots, and the rear ramp is unable to support fully equipped soldiers, limiting its use for rapid entry and disembarkation.
Heavier infantry weapons, such as the Stinger man-portable surface-to-air missile and MILAN anti-armor missile, cannot currently be transported, since strap-down attachments are not provided. The transport of combined loads of troops and cargo is also prohibited.
The limited cabin space means there is no defensive machine gun and door-gunner.

No its going to be with the Aussie F-22 :p

In my opinion, This is not a question of if PN will go for SSN/SSBN, but rather when Pakistan can produce one. Production of A-90B was first step and now purchase & co-production of 6 SSK is the next step in sub hull production.

Kopp and company are the only ones that want the F22 and F-111 fleet.
    😮

Wow is this a lack of faith in Australian Defence Industry or Political unwillingness to commit to License Production?

    Nor are they likely too!
We do have a need for expensive lemon targets for RBS-70’s!!
