    Fabulous!

I’ve gotten two new ones: a huge Iberia B747-200 and probably right now the only 1:500 (or any scale) MEA B747-200 in Israel right now.

The writing was probably given to Sandy by the airline, after which he stylized it.

    Useless Trivia:
The phrase “United Arab Airlines” can be translated a couple of ways into Arabic. One is:

الخطوط الجوية العربية المتحدة, which literally translate the words “air” and “lines” (as in wind, and margins…)

Another way, as you see in the pictures, is following Egypt Air’s (and to some extent, Gulf Air’s) example of using the word للطيران, roughly meaning “flight”.

But what is the Arabic pronounciation, please?

Dictator Dubya paid Seattle a visit yesterday. Hopefully he lost a few votes screwing up Friday rush hour traffic between Bellevue end Seattle …

Unelected Dictator Dubya is more like it.

Probably offering more subsidies to Boeing. Long live Airbus.

    That would be very unhealthy.

Not just unhealthy, but totally unbearable.

Imagine 10 hours where your seat doubles as the lav :D. Just as bad is not being able to recline, and instead of IFE, a safety card.

    Good report, Michael.

Most Fokker 100s are configured for 95 or 100 people.

Not bothering. I have won stuff before, but I don’t really have the time.

$8 for “food” at TLV, along with “tea” (if an Israeli can make good tea, my mattress will jump). What a ripoff.

No, on the single biz class leg we had, we didn’t go in to the lounge.

After a glorious day spotting, walking (Heathrow Airport’s four terminals checkin and arrival areas) around Europe’s busiest airport, and reading, it was time to go home to Israel- to Ariel Sharon, falafel, and way too many hills for one’s own good.
Checkin was quick at LHR, I used a Self-Check-In Machine, rather convienient. Security, and then a dinner somewhere- a sandwich. Ich. Airport food sucks.
Boarding is never, ever, a simple thing on a TLV flight. It takes twice as long to get to your seat than on any other flight. But I got there, having navigated through at least 15 Orthodox Jewish (aka religious) families.
The flight was hardly memorable. I slept the whole way to TLV, waking up 20 minutes before arrival. A smooth landing, out of the plane, then 20 minutes at immigration (immigration takes forever at TLV no matter what time of day). Yet another time I have to explain I’m a Belgian citizen merely living in ISrael temporarily, not pernamently- they wanted me to become Israeli again. Baggage claim, customs, and the shuttle to Jerusalem. That was the trip.

10 lovely days in Italy sadly came to an end……..

    1835-2110

Check-in was speedy at FCO, as was security and passport control. Had a jolly good time spotting- even got Ethiopian, Eritrean, Croatian and Air Plus Comet, as well as TWO Tunisairs and a Volare A330!

Boarding was 30 minutes late, as the A319 was delayed in London. We left at 1855, and landed at 2050. The snack was an All Day Deli box: sweet corn and tuna sandwich (good) and Nestle prepackadged LC1 vanilla pudding (disgusting, and when opened, half of it explodes all over you). In front of me, a little boy was giving full details of the journey to his dad over and over, while his dad was detailing it. (“From Bangkok to Australia!”) My sister leaned over and whispered to me “and from Australia to the guillotine, if he doesn’t shut up right now.” Exactly how I felt, too.
The rest of the flight was spent reading Stupid White Men again. Landing was smooth.
Behind me, during taxi, a young boy was looking at the aircraft and identifiying them-“737, A320, 777, oh, there’s a Jumbo over there!” His brother said “Don’t be stupid they’re all Jumbos!” While the boy was proving they weren’t, I was desperately trying to hold in my laughter.
We got off, and my entire family, albeit my father, headed off to the Hilton LHR transfer hotel.
