You mean these guys:
and in particular this guy:
To be honest, I really think that roll was a bit, no I mean A LOT too low, and extremely too dangerous, even if only for him. He must have had only half an inch to spare. I’ll bet the display monitors gave him a bit of a sore ear.
Otherwise, as you say, they were an excellent part of the show. In fact I have often found gliders to be excellent airshow display teams.
I did think that the tug was there to do a bit of crop spraying though 😀
Just wondering, but does’nt RAF Innsworth hold any information – or has it closed now?
I went too, arriving early at about 7:30, had to wait a few minutes before they opened the parking, otherwise no delay for me (of course, that’s what I expected at that time), and easy getting out too. I am fortunate in being able to use the disabled car park, it seems (and I’ve got a story about that too – but I got help from the OIC Parking – so thanks to her for arranging an escort).
Gloomy, and not very good for photography, I’m afraid. Was faintly amused by people trying to photograph flying aircraft on their mobile phones, then complaining that they just looked like dots.
Was not amused by the extremely loud, to the point of distortion, PA system, and once again it’s speakers on pylons (they should take leaf or two out of Culdrose’s book) getting into virtually every photograph 🙁 -it was either that or high sided vans. I stongly suggest they sack the PA firm, for such an incompetent performance, and claim back the fees.
In theory Cosford should be one of my favourite airshows, being the first one I’ve attended this year, but sadly I only ever seem able to find something negative to say. It’s sad really – perhaps I expect too much from them, as I am a native of Wednesfield, Wolverhampton (which is just down the road), and I did some trade training there too.
Off to Kemble next – look out for me near the disabled car park, but on the crowd line.
The commentator at Cosford said that they had DA, but not a general permit to fly!! Not quite sure how that works.
She didn’t make it to Cosford, unfortunately. But it was nice to see the Sea Hawk flying again.
Cheers Nick.
I see no photographs of the Cosford show have appeared here as yet!
Not a great day for photos anyway, but I’ve got some I’ll post later.
Perhaps they’ll take the hint and post a “potential” list of shows they would be at, given weather, serviceability, etc. I can’t find anything on the TVOC website.
What they have put up is a “diary”, but it seems that the nearest one to South West England is Fairford, which probably isn’t as bad as I thought – but Fairford tickets are sky-high! £32.50 for entry and £18.95 for a seat in the stands (in advance only – somewhat more expensive if bought on the day), which would be a must for me – so £51.45 in total. Going to the Park & View events mean I wouldn’t get to see XH558 – so while they’re much cheaper, they’re not what I want to go for.
One of the problems I have is with my health, and I missed at least two shows last year. because 24 hours before I had to go to hospital instead. 🙁
I would suppose that what they are trying to do is a little “damage limitation”, if the unthinkable happens. Trying to stop people selling their photographs and videos to the media, making them exclusively available to the regulatory powers. A bit silly really, when you take web sites like YouTube into account.
Stopping photography by visitors would not only be unenforceable, it would probably see up to 75% of the public never bothing to go to another airshow as long as they live. It would be the death knell for all airshows.
Touch wood! I’ve never been to an airshow where an accident has happened (unless you count a tyre bursting on the Sea Hawk while landing at Culdrose a couple of years ago).
Well, as yet that can’t be guaranteed, and given how much I put into the project I will be extremely disappointed if I can’t, now, see her flying for myself. My personal circumstances have changed dramatically since then. 🙁
So another question is; is take-off configuration different when taking off from a carrier (flaps down, or partly down) and an airfield (I’m guessing fully up – or pilots choice)?
She’s not down for Culdrose and I reckon the Yeovilton/Waddo clash will pretty much stop any chance of her going to Yeovilton(?).
I would hope that 558 goes to more shows than just Waddo, Riat and Farnborough this year as people from all corners of the country have given their hard-earned cash to see it fly!
Couldn’t agree more. Where XH558 appears will very much tailor where I go this year, and consequently how many shows I can go to.
I live in Plymouth, travelling to any of those listed would be extremely prohibitive cost wise, with RIAT being the only possibility other than Cosford, Kemble, Yeovilton and Culdrose. Even Biggin is really beyond my reach from here.
Martin,
Is that actually proven in law, or merely your take on it? Either way, do you have a reference?
It may be different if you actually accept the ticket and enter the grounds, as it says
…persons are admitted to the event on the condition that save with the written consent of the Organisers, they make no attempt to sell, license or otherwise exploit or attempt to exploit any material, whether written or in the form of photographs etc…
as in my previous post.
…obtained or made in consequence of their admission.
Is it just a scare tactic?
If it is just scare tactics, is that allowed under the laws brought in last Sunday to stamp out unfair practices?
Just one question about the ‘plane itself.
Would it have been normal to leave the flaps down after the pilot had completed shut down and vacated? Or does it not matter?
Bu Keqi
Only wish I was a good photographer 🙁
I will still be using my 18 month old S6500fd this year.
ooerr – I usually only go to the enthusiasts day (the day before the airshow) at Yeovilton, I doubt they’ll take her down there for that, so I might have to make changes to my itinerary.
Yeovilton’s official airday is usually so crowded it’s virtually impossible to find a good place without sitting in front of the fence from 8am. Not to be recommended if, like me, you suffer from Diabetes!
