Yeah, prop blur is difficult to get on the S5x’s because there is no anti-shake, the best I was ever able to achieve is probably this at Exeter in 2003.

I wonder – a model flying in a bonsai forest????
Maybe some real, some model?
And too far away from the Midlands, South & South East to replace Kemble, which is under threat of being closed.
Aviaition generally gets a good press and active support down here – we are short on employers that need people with good technical skills here.
It is worth pointing out that Kemble is as close to the South West as it gets for an active airfield that can support ALL kinds of Vintage Aircraft, including, and especially, Jets.
St Mawgan has the potential, but is closing. Culdrose and Yeovilton are active Naval Air Stations. I don’t know what the status of Chivenor is, but I know they used to fly Hunters there.
I could only imagine that, to maintain the South Western audience, they would need to go to Plymouth! I don’t know whether that would be acceptable, as the Midlands, East & South East England would probably miss out.
Naturally, as far as I’m concerned they’d be very welcome here in Plymouth – we desperately need more aviation related activities down here in my opinion.
Kemble is well situated, with an enormous catchment area, potential and little competition.
Not quite, but almost off topic.
I was astounded to see that Amazon are now selling 1GB xD cards for less than £8 – Eight UK PDS STLG – I can remember, not too long ago, when they were £80 and more. 😡
Modern Prosumer (bridge) cameras, such as the Finepix S9600/S5600/S6500fd and the Olympus UZ550 series do not, in fact, suffer from any great delay these days. They’re much much better than their ancestors.
Go for it, that particular camera is really very good, and is better than 300mm it is more like 500mm at max zoom. I would suggest it is an ideal camera for beginners taking photos of aircraft in flight at shows.
There is a review here – Click.
They all offer fantastic value for money when compared with a similarly specified dSLR, although it is true there are some compromises, that a professional or very active hobbyist wouldn’t be too happy with.
Is DAEC at RAF Cosford?
If so, then there’s a question mark above that, according to rumours. I don’t remember where, but I’m sure someone said RAF Cosford might be closing. Why would the RAF move all these airframes there, when they’d only have to be moved somewhere else relatively soon?
Sorry for delay…..I’m waiting for a decent scanner then I can post some old pix (I’ve got boxes of em….maybe youre in there somewhere)
Cool, looking forward to seeing them, whether I’m there or not.
I hope these won’t all end up on the scrapheap, or hidden away in dark dank museums. I do hope that some of them will go into private hands – Can you imagine a Mr Meaner?
To those who, like me, missed the news broadcast.
If you have Freeview or Virgin Cable (not sure about Sky), you can see BOTH reports right now on BBC News 24 Multiscreen.
Simply press the “red” button on your remote control, when tuned to BBC News 24. Move the cursor to highlight WWII Bomber and press OK.
Quite a long report, with PA474 flying up and down CBYs taking off and flying round the airfield a few times.
Why Lossiemouth? You ask. Because it was the site of the original Operational Conversion Unit, probably.
No doubt many of the older Jag drivers will have been trained there.
I use Paintshop Pro – but I can see that the similarities between it and Photoshop are easy to follow. I’m certainly learning quite a bit here. Thanks Guys.
If I can, I’ll post some before and after pictures later.
Rob
I think this link just about describes what to do with memory cards in the washing.
😉
I’ve often looked at the histogram, but have no idea what it should look like.
Is there a specific way it should look after it has been altered?
For the record:
Copy original to a working directory (leaves original as backup)
Rotate if necessary
Crop so that I’m working with an image that is within boundaries (after rotating just a few degrees, image may have odd corners that need to be shaved off).
And/Or
Crop to produce the photo I want.
Resize as necessary
Remove noise if necessary using Neat Image
Adjust colour level and contrast as necessary
Sharpen using USM in small stops as necessary (being careful not to alter contrast – which is an unfortunate by product if used too heavily) (I find a very small radius – about 1.5 – is about right).
Save.
Finished.
If I need any smaller copies, I will resize and re-sharpen, from the already edited version, and save as a separate copy, rather than going back to the original.
I don’t normally print my photos, but when I do I use the highest resolution possible – and will go back to the original to make a printable edit.
