Sorry Guys, for me the Buccaneer sits alongside the Gannet as being hard to keep the eyes focussed on.
There’s is nothing with a jet engine to equal the beauty of these babies, however:
If you’re not sure you want to invest loads of money in cameras yet, but still like something that might be useful if you do get the bug, then I have found that any of the Prosumer cameras, with a good long lens is a great place to start.
I use a Fuji Finepix S5600 myself – which has a 10x zoom, in conjunction with a teleconverter, giving a maximum 15x. That combination won’t come anywhere near breaking the bank. It has all the attributes a beginner needs – yet it’ll be something you can keep hold of later for less demanding work.
Of course a prosumer lacks in some areas (it isn’t a true SLR for instance – you have to rely on the resolution of the viewfinder LCD) – but it is as fully manual, or fully automatic, as you like – allowing you to learn how to use all the various settings.
If we’re discussing lexicography, then the words “Sick” & “Parrot” are entering my vocabulary right this minute.
Oh and “Green” and “Envy”.
Cool shots – and what did I get on my birthday? – A watch. Not that I’m complaining considering it’s source, but a trip in one of those birds would have been just as welcome.
What happens, is if you click on a thumbnail a separate browser opens up with the full sized image in it (you will note that the cursor changes – probably from an arrow to a pointing finger if you move the cursor over the thumbnail image – oh – and I just noticed a message pops up too).
There is an alternative way of posting full size images directly into the forum, but that entails hosting the files somewhere else on the Internet – in some webspace you own, or through an image hosting site.
Here’s an image that I host on my own webspace:

And here’s an image hosted by Key Publishing using the upload facility:
Wasn’t BP a communications relay centre? Along with Stanmore Park?
Will I get the chance to buy a product with a free Corgi Stearman model in pink livery, for under £2? (Errmmmm and even if I can, will I be able/want to use said product myself? I hope it doesn’t have ermmm Wings, if ya know what I mean 😉 )
I take it the sample photo’s are not all of the same aircraft – I’m sure 74 is still flying, but I don’t really know.
Also, does the seller hold the copyright on those photos? The one of 74 looks VERY familiar. Possibly taken at Kemble on 20 June 2004? Oh BTW, it’s not my photo, but very similar to some of mine taken that day.
Are we off topic now?
We took two of the Stearmans to Airshow China in 2000 at Zuhuhai Guangdong province in Southern China. We were there for a month which included reassembly of the two A/C, some press flying and the Airshow its self. The A/c were then disassembled and put back in containers for there return to the UK. Whilst there the A/C were painted with water washerble paint and had logo’s for GREE Airconditioners, a local sponsor, applied. must dig my pics out sometime 🙂
It is

It is Chinese – an advert for air conditioners.

Mark12 has contacted me, so thanks to him.
Does anyone have any images of, say, an Edwardian or early 20th century biplane rebuild. I’m also considering images of a 40’s/50’s/60’s jet.
I’m looking at using say 4 or 5 pictures – basic untouched airframe or components – stripped back and cleaned – half or partway through the restoration project – static completed and flying.
And I would like a total of up to 3 projects – images don’t need to be high resolution, but they do need to have clarity of subject. The pictures need to be of easily reconiseable aircraft or major components.
Nope – that museum photo is actually not level – the right wing is lower than the left – so either it has a flat tyre, or the picture needs levelling. I prefer the latter option, given other reference points – although I haven’t had the opportunity to place a grid over it yet.
A good way to check level is actually to look for vertical reference objects, not just horizontal ones, in my experience.
Incidentally, I use Jasc’s Paint Shop Pro (not Adobe) – but many photo editing packages have an unsharp mask facility. I’m not altogether sure that they use common settings though.
Question to Mark 12 is hereby directed (and anyone else who may wish to contribute).
Does anyone have a set of photographs leading from, say, a data plate ( 😉 0 to a fully flying restoration, that I might use to develop the site banner?
If so, PM me for an email address, or point me in the direction of their online hosting.
Thanks
Cool, now all we need to do is slightly sharpen it, to bring it all into focus.
Here, I’ve applied the unsharp mask twice: –
Radius 138
Strength: 50
Clipping: 5
on each occasion.
If you chose to apply changes to any of your photographs, always work on a copy, never the original – otherwise you could end up not being able to start again. Plus, you might not be able to capitalise on your experience later, when you want to re-work them because of what you’ve learned.
Actually, looking at this picture again, I’ve very slightly over cooked the sharpening. Once at strength 50 and once at S:25 would probably have been better, as there’s a small amount of pixillation/jaggies on the Bone’s wingtip.
Of course, if you attempt to blow this copy up, it would look awful – but that’s a good thing. It’s good to look at at this size, but won’t print very well.
