6/10 Scale Spitfire ?? 😮
There are actually two versions of the HS125 in RAF service, the Dominie or HS125 bought in an early batch of 20 in about 1965 or so, and a later batch of 6 or 7 BAE125’s (which do not seem to be labeled Dominie) in the mid 70’s to supplement a few that were allocated to the Queen’s Flight.
Never heard of any being lost – although I have an idea some of the QFs earlier models may have been retired in the 1990’s.
That does mean that a fair proportion of the 1965 batch are probably still flying – 41 years actually in service!
Rob
I don’t mind at all. The day when you think you know everything is the day when things go horribly pear-shaped!
Thanks for the advice,William
Ahhhh I’m doomed 😮
:diablo:
I was posted to Finningley in the early-mid ’70’s – ’73 early ’74 if I recall. Definitely remember one airshow there – it must have been ’73, as by the spring of ’74 I was pretty much on my way to Lossiemouth.
And Finningley is more or less where I gained my appreciation for the old bird.
Thanks Frank.
Whilst in no way advocating the closure of Duxford as a flying site, I would just like to point out that there is an huge lack of active historic aviation sites down here in the deep South West. Yet we have a lot of old sites, now inactive, that might possibly be reactivated.
Plenty of space, and a huge road improvement is going on down in deepest Cornwall, leading to sites such as St Mawgan which is currently looking for a means of staying open, which would get a lot of support from the local community as they know it’s true value.
It’s a long way from Birmingham and London, I know, but we are so often forgotten down here.
Bring it on – Devon and Cornwall would welcome with open arms such an important airfield development, and the weather is generally better too.
But why was an insect watering your garden in the first place?
Probably taking a No.1. Probably incontinent too, if it didn’t know.

Will all the Jags be life expired by the time they’re retired, or will some still be available with remaining life.
And would the CAA consider them too complex for civilian use?
I’d love to see one done up like Miss Demeanour on the airshow scene.
All the scans have been reduced in file size to allow posting on this board
When you do this, please also reduce image size. If you simply reduce the file size you lose some quality in the image anyway, so it makes sense to reduce the image size to, say, 1024x or 800x as these sizes better fit computer monitors, and the loss of quality issue better matches the image.
Here’s an example – hope you don’t mind. As usual, click for full size image.
Robant makes a valid point about the option of resizing the image, but I think that that’s a trick you should only use once you get home and want to rescue an image to show on the internet. It is always better to start with a good shot obviously!
That is actually what I meant – resizing for your computer monitor, so you (and others) have the entire image in view.
Oh – and make that a COPY – always keep the original somewhere, and set the properties to “Read Only”.
Ah Rob, I notice you’re a Novell type. I’m a lowly CNA!
Ditto – a CNS means Certified Novell Salesperson – one days free training at Bracknell the first time, top up online courses every year, also free, which take about 2 hours to complete. The test is multiple choice again, online and free.
Having a CNS gives me the ability to give away a five user version of Novell Small Business Suite 6.5 (NetWare version). I hope they extend that to the Linux version. But I think they might cancel the scheme altogether. Will have to wait and see.
The Spitfire shot was taken with your 350D, not the 300D – be sure to get the correct one cleaned.
I can tell that from the exif data embedded within the image.
Thanks Guys, some interesting stuff here.
They can post their own, if they’re interested. The F111 is sufficiently old enough to be considered as “Historic”, which is why I started my thread at about the same time as this one, also here.
In modern military it wouldn’t have been read by me.
