mmmmm – note in Yeovilton’s Photocall sheet yesterday – under a red highlight: –

    1700 – 1710 – Hawk x 11 – RAF

Even so, approximately 200 people fell out of their chairs when 11 (yes 11) of these arrived

    Robbo – nothing at all.

    However: –

Shows exist because they’re paid for by someone.

There are lots of ways of paying for something, directly and/or indirectly (adverts on ITV for example).

Perhaps (I don’t know, this is speculation) there are other ways that an event can be paid for. I know, for example, that Plymouth tried again this year, using sponsorship. Unfortunately something (I know not what) went wrong and the event was cancelled.

Sponsorship, though, isn’t as free as we might think. The past and future customers of the sponsors are ultimately the people who pay for an event. And in the end that ultimately filters down to everyone of us.

Just considering ways of removing the epidermis from the feline.

Robbo is well known for his “controversial” views 😉

It is sometimes better to be aware of this with many posters on many forums.

Don’t get me wrong, not accusing Robbo of anything, he’s a genuinely nice enough Guy when you meet him, but I try to keep a balanced view myself.

I have been thinking about this issue very hard.

In actual fact, I will only attend on Friday (tomorrow) and I will be INSIDE.

I can’t afford it, and I’m not going to make myself known to anyone – although many of you know me anyway – as I don’t want to embarass myself, or anyone else.

However, I have one absolutely overpowering reason for needing to be inside. And if anyone knows anything about diabetes, then they’ll know that I absolutely must be close to a loo. And yes, I could use a tree, but I’d rather not!

Maybe next year Organisers can consider how to cater for “the debilitated” as well as “the disabled”. Not everyone qualifies (or even applies) for a blue parking ticket. There are more personal ways of identifying someone like me. For instance, I don’t just qualify for a Medical Excemption Certificate (for free subscriptions), that’s given out to every diabetic, working or not, but a full “HC2 Certificate for full help with health costs”, which indicates my low income status and poor general health, and which I keep with me at all times.

The shot attached best illustrates what i’m talking about,as for the settings i use:

“P” mode on the dial & the ISO set to 100 or 64,100 in this case. The sharpen option is set to standard. The exif data is shown below, ingore the ISO rating the ISO range limit is 1600 so i don’t know where it’s getting that from

Hope you don’t mind, but is this better?

With the S5600 you can only change the sharpness setting when you turn the camera on into “take pictures” with the dial turned to either P, A, S or M.

In any other mode, you can’t scroll down to “Page 2”, below “Set”.

I’m not sure if it sticks in “Auto” mode. I usually use S-hutter authority anyway, so that I can get some movement into propellers. But it’s not really appropriate for Jets.

I can’t be bothered to look for the book, the online one is handier.

Surely it won’t be (can’t be) ready until the restoration is completed? That was my understanding.

Certainly the highlight of such a DVD-Video would be a sequence showing it take off, fly about a bit, and land!

Many digital cameras initially display soft focus on a computer monitor, you almost invariably need to sharpen them.

Here’s a picture I took with my S5000 – which is even lower spec than the S5600 – last year – see how after processing sharpeness is applied. I’ll post two versions before and after.

For the first time, I don’t think I have a choice.

Because I don’t have an income (I’m currently off work, on incapacity benefit due to health problems) I don’t have any “disposable” income. I can just about afford the petrol to get there to Yeovilton (and Culdrose) this year. I certainly can’t afford the £20 entrance fee (I can’t buy my ticket in advance, I don’t know if I’ll be well enough to go anyway on the day).

So, what am I to do – not go at all? Certainly that’s a possibility, but one of the things that defines me is my love of aircraft, I don’t live close enough to anywhere having a show – Plymouth’s was cancelled.

There are NO concession tickets, and they would only sell concessions to the disabled, usually – not those well enough to go about looking after themselves, but declared “sick”. I have nerve damage, elevated tachycardia and atriel fibrilation – I’m not bedridden – but not well enough to work.

    I’m in a dilemma.

I will go to Yeovilton on the 7th for photocall day, but I don’t think I have a choice, I will have to go to one of the unofficial viewing points.

Which viewing point at Yeovilton on 7th and 8th would be recommended? Obviously somewhere where I can both see the action, and park relatively close by.

I’ve never done, and never wanted to do this in the past – but I feel I’m being left with no choice.

hehe, I tried that at Cosford one year –

I don’t know how, but I ended up exiting from Kemble airfield instead, turned the corner and there was Culdrose!

do do dodo do do dodo spooky

I think my policebox was on the blink. Again!!! 😀

    Fuji Finepix 2800Zoom,

    It’s not that bad, see my 2002/2003 photos – I’m actually quite proud of the Kemble shots I managed with my 2800Zoom. See here {click}

I’m desperately saving to try and make Yeovilton on Saturday and (touch wood) Culdrose on Wednesday next.

mmmm – yes, shoot at a higher resolution. Your camera may not be ideally configured, especially if your just using the defaults.

I can afford up to or around £300 so i am not talking Digital SLR sadly, What i want is something that can photo moving Aircraft much like the 602 could(with a adaptor lense), I have thought about two different camera’s so far and would like some advice.

    The two camera’s are,
1)Fuji Finepix S5600 (seems to me a updated 602, Are they any good).

The S5600 is an updated S5000, and yes, it’s quite good for what it is.

Everything on my website from 2004/5 was taken with an S5000 and my trip to Scotland was done with the S5600. I’m happy with it. You might like my Old Warden 2004 and Branscombe 2005 pictures especially.

But it costs a lot less than your budget. Look at something higher up the range. If you can order online, you will find the much superior S9500 for £313 on amazon.co.uk.

The Kodak Z740 is NOT a DSLR it is, like the Finepix cameras, a prosumer. It has an LCD viewfinder.

About 30 seconds a photo – download – load into PS Pro – apply unsharp mask – check – apply again if necessary – save – upload

FYI my standard unsharp mask settings are:

    Radius 1.30 Strength: 50 Clipping: 2

These are very conservative settings – it is better to apply a little at a time repeatedly – than use higher settings. If I have to apply a number of times to achieve sharpness, while keeping the photo noise free, I’ll reduce the strength to 30 or 25. Try to avoid whitening around the edges of objects and straight lines becoming jagged.

Also, make sharpening the last thing you do – after any other retouching, resizing, cropping or adjusting you might think necessary.
