Ive seen previous photos of this engine before stating it was 1/4 scale.. To me it looks more 1/4 than 1/5.. Just look at those close up photos..
Dont see why he went to all the trouble to build the engine and then not have a scale starting system… Mabey an electric starter was too complicated for him to build 😉
Brave man to swing the prop by hand I must say

Also on the net ive seen a guy in the states who had started to manufacture castings for a 1/4 merlin kit but if I remember rightly it didnt have scale internals like this amazing master piece..

Very nice… those must really vibrate… Goes to show how well the aircraft of that era were built……

Great !! Cant wait to see and hear it in the UK.

Someone said before that it may be the 1st p 39 to fly in the uk since WW2…. But didnt TFC have a 39 in the early 90’s that was lost in France… ??

My god the “EXPERTS” and MOANERS are off again and the aircraft has not even probably flown yet. I feel sorry for any of the guys at TFC if they ever read this C___ Just remember the spoutings (all ill informed as it seemed) about the Hurricane last year. Why can’t we all just wait for it to arrive when it does, mindst you I can’t wait for the expert views when it does just think of all the it’s not right and it’s not the right colour etc. 😀 😀

    well said…

I agree with your comments about low level aeros, but it is mainly a pilot problem.I was there for the P38, and it was a gentle manouvre until something went wrong,it was a horizontal manouvre as well, not vertical such as the p63,f/fire and the Yak.
As for Stephen Greys display i had’nt seen it but maybe he is counting his blessings as well. 😮

Im was counting his blessings for him at one of the legends shows whilst flying his ‘joker’ routine in the Bearcat.. Beutiful and un forgettable display but the High powered vertical dives over the airfield ( about 10 ) had me a little frightened 😮 Athough very entertaining ( thats the point of doing it ) In my opinion is ‘asking for it’ ..
I think my point has been made so will leave the subject alone now… been good to hear the different opinions

The point is had these aircraft not been performing aeros they’d still be here.. ( I dont know the official cause of the 38 but i sure know It wasnt being flown gentley..

If aeros are to be performed then why so low all the time.. Were not blind !!..
In the FF and 63 cases a extra 100 ft could of been the difference and in the Yak clip a foot was the difference..!

In a post ‘Duxford May 16th’ on this site the poster talks about a worring moment when Stephen Grey pulls his spit out so low he looses sight of it… Id thought he’d know better.. Sounds like a very similar incident to this Yak..
Until this sort of flying stops there will be accidents… Lessons are not learnt from the past.
I dont mean to sound boring, Theres nothing id like to see more than Something like the Tigercat flat out at 50 ft but once its gone its gone..

As for saying why do areobatics in them, thats what they’re bloody meant to do. Could you imagine being at Duxford seeing a very capable fighter just buzzing up and down in a straight line? It would be like watching paint dry

So Why cant we see a P 38 Or P 63 or Firefly Etc @ Duxford these dasy then?

    I wonder why……

Id rather watch ‘paint dry’ than nothing……

Funny how some say he’s a idiot.. What if he hadnt been so lucky…. would he still be a idiot. The incident is alomost identical to the Firefly.. The men in the Firefly were rightly so never called idiots.

Mr Hanna is never reffered to as a idiot.. Yes he’s a good and vast experienced pilot but sometimes a bit over top as like the yak pilot.. Yet Hanna is awlays praised for that style of flying..

Mabey lessons will be learnt by this clip.. I hope so..

Ps No offence to any of the named
