That looks interesting. What’s it’s background Andy ?
.
I took the photos in the early 90s, i think some of the bits were later scrapped?
I have a fuel tank sender & Throttle housing from a Firebrand.
There was this at the FAAM.
Gannet XA459 at White Waltham.
Is that the one that used to be in the museum at Fleetlands?
Yes!
Arrestor hook which i believe came from the Tangmere Wyvern fuselage.
Intersting to see honiton mentioned…this is a question mark Sabre from the ATC. I have been in contact with them over the years and they had no record of them ever having a Sabre (esp as Honiton was a hut and the wooden floor would not have taken a Sabre). The Rolls Royce list has:-
1064 (Honiton) Sqn ATC unknown number/mark.
From your post HMS Vulture….are you saying the this is one of the engines that Kermitt Weeks has?
The Shoreham example (sea recovery from what I remember) was sold and last seen laying around Booker. Not sure if it is till there (this was about 6 months after the sale).
Talking of the shoreham sale….can anyone actually confirm where the mock up cockpit ended up? I believe it is in France but not sure where.
Still working on gathering my notes together on the Sabres will post as soon as I can
The Honiton Sabre is still in Devon & the Shoreham sabre came from a land site (Gweek,Tempest).
When I used to do voluntary work for Devon Aircraft Research and Recovery Team, the head of the group (Robin), told me that they reovered a Sabre from Dartmoor and it was in remarkable condition, however I never saw it, I also believe Kermit Weeks contacted him and wanted to buy it…… maybe HMS Vulture could confirm this??
I have been told another story of a group who came from the London area and recovered a Sabre from a site near Helston down here in Cornwall
:):)
The first Sabre came from Honiton(not Dartmoor).
The second was auctioned at the Shoreham museum.
Any Fairey Firefly?
Hi Folks,
I will be recovering a large quantity of Heinkel 111 wreckage next summer from the sea and was wondering how long items have to remain in fresh water to remove the dreaded salt
Also what is the best way to preserve these items when dry to stop/halt corrosion etc
I will of course post pics of the recovery as and when it happens:)
All advice would be most appreciated:)
Why not ask Robin Hood??????
