When I posted this enquiry, I had no idea so many people in the UK knew about this aircraft! The Aerovan and Shorts use of the wing came as a surprise. There’s no doubt that history is logged on this forum.
If there are any French ‘aviatrix’ out there, perhaps they could provide details on the actual STOL performance gained. From my experience on my bike, I know it could land on a sixpence (5 Francs?)! After all, that is what the high aspect ratio wing was for.
I checked Google and there were a number of French-language sites, but the translations provided by Google were somewhat limited. Thanks for the great pics, although I don’t remember the glazed nose. Apparently these planes were used for photographic sorties. Have to go to the USSR for other aircraft with this feature, although they were used for other purposes…

You all must have jogged my memory. I’m pretty sure it was the HD-32, possibly HD-32/101. I know it was the prototype and the year was 1953 or 1954. Thanks.

Thanks lads, great response. One thing – what was the plane I saw, HD-101 or what?

One interesting feature of the Victor pilots’ panels was that the fuel guages and associated controls were inside a slide-out drawer under the centre instrument panel. It saved a lot of normal ‘panel space’.

The instrument panel was a standard fit for most RAF aircraft of the time, and was interchangeable between all types.
