BAE have an interesting site on this now, but albeit little information so far.

    Mantis first flight video:

IIRC the Thales guy said “five years ahead in Europe”. He didn’t say Thales was ahead of those American firms.

    Even that would be ridiculous.

Some people have been claiming 2015 as unrealistic for Typhoon’s AESA, well, first production radars will exist by 2014, a “huge team” is working on it in Edinburgh (makers of Gripen NG’s radar, the Vixen 500E, Vixen 1000E, etc….).

Mason said they had agreed a “large amount of funding” from the Eurofighter governments through to the first production standard radars scheduled for completion in 2014 for aircraft production the following year.

The executive said Euroradar now had a huge team working on the development at Selex’s main development plant in Edinburgh and elsewhere.

Quote from an article from 2010, Selex sees itself as European leader in AESA.

“We do not feel the need to discuss such matters at this stage,” Morgan said. “In the case of any international collaboration, we would anyway see ourselves as the European leader in airborne radar.”

Not being vapourised yourself would seem to be a good candidate for something more important 😎

Bluewings justified the T/R modules claim previously on the assumption that French engineers are better than British engineers, which is a fairly ridiculous assumption LOL! I believe there is a joint run T/R module plant between Germany and France too, so it would be interesting to see how the French twist that one 😎

Hey buddy, good to see you here. 🙂

Yeah, actually, we should end the whole discussion, French people are superior beings, so it is obvious anything they do is better by definition. :diablo:

As confirmed by eagle1 who visited the Thales stand, your modules count and Software is more important than size and Thales is 5 years ahead of its European counterparts. This gap is unlikely to reduce unless a miracle occurs, like European countries funding an AESA radar for Eurofighter.

In what area? Last time I checked Selex was extremely busy in AESA technology, supplying Gripen NG with an AESA for example. Not mentioning the AESA development for Typhoon, Vixen, Seaspray, etc…

It’s this French arrogance that people despise, you provide no proof whatsoever and just assume everyone is **** except France. The Rafale fan club indulges in xenophobia too often quite frankly.

Warton final assembly line to remain open until 2017 with current 25 aircraft a year production (if as expected all Saudi ‘phoons are now assembled there):

So, in the worst case that of course won’t happen because India will order Typhoon, Warton could reduce to 12 a year and remain open until 2023 without new orders?

I would be utterly surprised if any of the two bidders did not offer far more than 50%. They’ll be going all out for it and I suspect EADS will throw in some Airbus Germany work.

Also in the magazine posted was a reference to Paveway IV currently being integrated, so it’s Paveway 2, Paveway IV, EGBU-16 (whatever that is exactly, is also a 500lb bomb?) and RecceLite (in addition to air-air, etc…).

Oh my, the last time I posted on these forums must be about 2.5 years ago. Good to see the French still outdo any New Labour spin doctor. 😀 Anyways, have fun.

Then don’t buy the F35 and build more typhoons if UK jobs is all that matters

You seem rather ignorant about the UK participation in the F35 and what it means to UK industry.

Nice, thanks for that. Looking good there! I wish they’d release an image of Taranis in final assembly. 😀
