Govan is the last active shipyard in the UK capable of assembling the hull blocks of the CV-F. There is no realistic alternative site in the United Kingdom.
You tell that Rosyth shipyard who are actually going to assemble the CVFs! 😀 Anyhow I think in the hypothetical scenario of Scotland being independent the UK government would active some English or Northern Irish dock. Apart from that Scotland would also loose some hull manufacture.
If the carrier is given the go ahead in the UK I have a gut feeling that the French will get some of the build work for the UK carriers. Maybe not a superblock but possibly the bridge block and the secondary flyco block. There are other systems that could be sourced from France as well.
I could imagine the French getting to build all of the flight deck for all three CVFs and the UK building all superblocks for all CVFs. That would be about a 2:1 workshare.
What do you think, how many J-10s will be built for the PLAAF?
Fact is that the Islands belongs to Argentina…… it’s unbelievable that there are still imperial powers in the year 2006! Don’t forget that Latin American polotical situation is making a turn to the left……. and Argentina is this time NOT alone in the idea’s to have the islands back
Yes, unbelievable, a country that acts against the will of the people on the islands clearly is imperial, so when will Argentine give up it’s imperial policies that act against the will of the Falkland Islanders? Does the UK really need to beat you up again before you finally give up?
So it was obvious the investigation would be stopped just in time before the ending of a so called ultimatum given by saudi arabia to britain.
I believe this “ultimatum” ended on December the 12th. Two days before the annoucement. :p Anyhow I certainly was taken by surprise by the decision and judging by various posts on various forums I certainly think a lot of French got their hopes up high and are quite disappointed now. This is understandable in my opinion. Just as understandable that lots of Brits are happy, not least the BAE workers at Warton, Samlesbury, Brough and Woodford and many other places. I hope all the rumours about what equipment might be included in the UK-Saudi deal are true. I wouldn’t mind seeing a Type 45 in Saudi coulours. 😎
The French are obviously trying to find a downside to the solution. They got their hopes up that they’d get the Saudi deal and now their chances have reduced massively. I nearly feel sorry for them… nearly. 😀 By the way yesterday three Saudi Tornados touched down at Warton. It could well be that the Saudi Tornado upgrade programme is already going ahead. I know that for iirc more than a year three Saudi Tornados have been at Warton to act as prototypes. They are iirc still there so there should be six RSAF Tornados at Warton now. 🙂 😎 The Typhoon deal [and the other deals] will hopefully soon be signed.
Their would have been other employers that may have taken on ex BAe technicians and operators.
the actuall manageers well i dont know how many companies would like to employ them.
Still losing the deal would have had a negative impact on UK plc. If BAE sheds jobs, instead of hiring more, then even if other companies employ them again, it is negative for UK plc because with the deal happening BAE won’t fire people, but will add more people and the companies you mention will still take on other people. Obviously a large export order is economically good for UK plc.
UK BACKED DOWN.
its been all over the press today the investigation has stoped because it hurts “national” interests!
shame really
this would have made BAe less Ballchy.
And it would have made thousands of British citiziens unemployed and might have led to BAE shifting it’s business to the USA. This annoucement is very good news for the UK industry and government.
Mate, go to the forum at http://www.arrse.co.uk, lots of serving Army personnel there, though to summarize the main opinion expressed in the thread there: It’s crap.
Yes good news imo. 😀
Just saving Fonk/Foofoone the trouble of replying…….
ROFL 😀
ha ha ha, raven ****ty blah blah, demonstrator of the neuron flew in 2000, nEuron was lauched in 2003, and it’s a 3 years 500$ millions multi nations project, twice your brit blah di blah,
1) The petit duc didn’t have a similiar design to the final Neuron layout.
2) The petit duc was a small RC UAV weighing 60kgs, I also think it crashed during flight testing.
3) Raven is very similiar to Taranis in layout and is fully autonomous.
4) The Neuron programme has a budget of 405 million euros, Taranis has a budget of about 186 million euros. Though in my opinion BAE has done much more R&D before the actual launch of the programme than the Neuron partners. BAE has been doing work on the Taranis through an 18 month risk reduction contract and programmes such as Raven [BAE funded], Nightjar [MoD funded] and Replica [MoD funded]. The extensive amount of work done already explains imo the short timescale.
a hawk jet? litle bit weigher? lol
nEuron have the seize of a Mirage 2000 empty!
The last thing I read is that Neuron will weigh about 6000kgs. Taranis will weigh about 8000kgs. The DGA says Neuron will have a wingspan of about 9.5 metres and a length of about 12.5 metres. The Hawk has a wingspan of 9.94 metres and a length of 12.43 metres. The MoD says Taranis will be similiar to a Hawk in size. So the size difference is minimal, not that that matters because my statement was that Taranis weighs more than Neuron, not that it is larger [though both are about the same size].

it’s a demonstrator? to keep somes abilities alive till next decade?
Neuron is a real project with planed first tests in 2009!
Neuron is also a demonstrator and first flight is planned for 2011 and according to the latest DGA statement this might slip into 2012. Concerning production BAE seems very intent on pushing for series production of a Taranis derived UCAV by 2018, it sounds ambitious but I’d really like to see it happening.
Waaah waaah, I’m gonna cry to the mods for this,
And I will also demand an apology in another radom thread, oh and I will also insult your whole race/country while I’m at it and call you a hypocrite without spelling errors.
Where in this thread did Sealordlawrence insult France? You say you don’t want anyone to go off topic or flame yet your last post is one of the worst flames in the whole thread.
We don’t give a damn what he tells you in private. If you are unhappy, ask him for an apology privately, or go complain to the mods, but don’t ruin an otherwise interesting thread.
If you want to keep posting here, stay on topic!
Funny, you didn’t get mad at the guy who posted the Eurofighter crash article and the crash-landing photos, though that post was the worst flame in the whole thread. Though I agree that it has to get on topic again, it is a good thread.
KKM enjoys trolling a plane he doesn’t know !
But he should rather enjoy the Typhoon show :
You seem to enjoy it too.
just a carbon copy of the Neuron!
lol
It doesn’t even look much like the Neuron. Note the backside or the air inlet of both for example. Taranis also weighs quite a bit more. Also note that the final Neuron configuration wasn’t fixed until probably early 2005 [it was shown in June 2005 for the first time], whilst the basic Taranis layout was tested in December 2003 with the first flight of the BAE Raven. With the 9 month design and build phase of Raven the basic Taranis layout dates to early 2003. The work done already on Raven, Nightjar and Replica explains why BAE is aiming for a first flight in 2010. One or if the latest DGA statement is true perhaps two years before Neuron’s first flight.
