I’d like a high-low mix for FSC. High could be 10 or so T45s with Tomahawk. Low might be an enhanced Clyde design with a hangar, a CIWS, a 114mm MK8 Mod 1 and a few GPMGs. I’m not sure if they could squeeze 16 Aster 15s on a lengthened Clyde. Low could also just be the new VT Group design that is being sold to Oman. It is 97.5 metres long and probably costs around 140 million pounds for each ship.
@Chakos: 5 are on contract with VT/Elefsis. According to Janes it is likely that at least another 3 are purchased on top of that. They also say it could replace most of Greece’s Combattante FAC fleet which iirc is currently about 15 ships. So in the end Greece will have something between 8 and 20 Super Vitas.

UK owned companies contribute about 20% to every C130J made. That’s partly due to offset obligations made by LM to the UK as their iirc first customer and partly due to the AE2100 from Allison [now R-R North America].
Agreed. Typhoon is the real deal and the Saudis are not really interested in Rafale anymore. The French are probably pressing it, but the Saudis have made up their mind. BTW The Eurofighters will NOT replace the Tornado upgrade. At least BAE is still working on the three Saudi Tornado Sustainment Tornados in Warton. It is probably Typhoon, Hawk, Tornado upgrade and missile/bombs contract for the UK&associates and helicopters, tankers and perhaps ships for France&associates. The refuelling equipment on the A330 tanker is British right? What engines are the Saudis taking on the A330? Hopefully Trents. 🙂
If there’s anyone to blame, it’s Tony Blair by sending our lads off around the world without ensuring they had a proper budget increase.
Agreed.
To me it looks like a totally open race at the moment:
– Norway participates in JSF, but the sum is small and they are not satisfied
– Norway participates in Typhoon, but the sum is small
– Gripen has the Nordic advantage and seems to be going strong in the press at least recently
Does this sale have any implications for the Typhoon/F35 contest in Turkey [like the purchase of F16s had in Greece]?
Actually, the only flying plane in competition is the Typhoon. The F35 hasn’t flown so far. 🙂
I don’t think the UK government can be that stupid. To cut the defence budget in the current situation is madness. Besides I thought the 1 Billion Pounds cut had been denied by Drayson.
@Warcry: You’re right BAE has a part in all of the remaining fighters. Though I think they’d prefer Typhoon winning.
@qantaz: Not sure about that. There are also issues of politics, industrial benefits, operational sovereignty etc… I’m hoping that Typhoon wins but we’ll see who the Norwegian MoD thinks is best suited.
Thanks. I’m sure Eurofighter GmbH will be trumpeting it around as soon as 100 have been delivered. 🙂
@swerve: What’s your source for the delivered Typhoon numbers?
84 have been delivered with another 8 to be handed over soon. So production is approaching 100.

How many Storm Shadows could a MRA4 carry?
What’s the gossip on this? It seems a bit delayed. Still think/hope that the BAe Hawk will clinch the deal.
