RAfale + russian project (PAK-FA ??) + UCAV, I think it’s enough;
Since when are they involved in PAKFA?
If you are trying to tell me that the ASRAAM’s NEZ is bigger than the Mica’s NEZ… I suspect you should double check your info about the Mica.
I’m sure the ASRAAM is an awesome WVR missile, but let’s not try to make it look like it has longer legs than the Mica IR.
I did not imply that, nor did I try to. My post was soley there to tell people that Asraam is no ordinary WVR missile.
Well what I have heard about Asraam is that it has a very long range for a “short-range” missile, something like 10+++ miles. That is why the RAF says Asraam also has a capability in the BVR range.
@Aurel: I think workshare wise Eurofighter can hold it’s own against JSF. They’ll probably offer tech transfer and final assembly plus like 7% of a 60+bn Euro programme as fifth partner, that would be more than 3.5 Billion Dollars.
It is not possible.
Even if the development is 50/50 UK industry would not have the money.
Neither has US industry, or can you see Lockheed pumping 20 Billion of their money into JSF? No industry has the money to fully develop a fighter on it’s own. Government backing is always needed even in a European partnership. so really what you’re saying is not anything new or spectacular. 😉
industry doesnt have the money and the government cant justify it.
it needs to be a partnership to be efficient and effective.
Well of course industry does not have the money (no aerospace company on earth would invest 20 Billion on a new fighter without government backing) but with MoD backing I think BAe could do it in a more efficient manner than a partnership.
Then what is UK doing with JSF? Isn’t it a “stealthy harrier”?
Well it’s not mainly British for a start. :diablo: Also it doesn’t have the sexy Harrier look to it. 😀
Well! The Rafale-M syndrome, actually an usual desease in UK…
Huh? I thought it is the Harrier syndrome. Any Brit loves to go on about a Harrier III, including me. 🙂 I’d love to see a stealthy Harrier III.
If US products are unsatisfactory, don’t buy them. If we are refused, cancel our order. We wouldn’t loose any workshare, as it is given to investors, which we are.
The UK still has an aerospace industry, and given some extra funds could develop new aircraft that we need, such as a Harrier II instead of the JSF. We could also buy Rafale if we so wished, and I am sure the Russians have a few Su35s spare if we get desperate.
Absolutely agree, though it would be Harrier III. 😮 Alternatively fly Harriers from them till 2020 and then put newly developed BAe UCAVs onto them. 🙂
On the nuclear issue, I say go it alone. We need a UK controlled deterrent, pure and simple.
I think this should only be done if we don’t get a good deal on a Trident replacement (with UK warheads) as the UK has no expertise in large rocket
design/manufacture and thus it would be terribly expensive.
If you say so, it must be true!
Let’s see perhaps because Typhoon is currently not carrier capable! 😉 Otherwise Typhoon is no failure.
AFAIK even if the UK pulled out the 10% minimum workshare is not linked to orders. And if the UK pulls out that might be like a signal for others [Denmark, Norway, Turkey, Netherlands] who knows?
I don’t think it is a bluff. ToT seems to be critical.
Bahh, you French keep on dreaming. :diablo: In the end the Saudis know what’s good for them and they’ll buy lots of Typhoons. 🙂
