Saudi Arabia nears Typhoon signatureSaudi Arabia could conclude a deal for at least 72 Eurofighter Typhoons before the end of this month, according to sources close to the proposed sale. Riyadh late last year announced its intention to buy the Typhoon under a government-to-government agreement with the UK, with this to include the transfer of an initial 24 aircraft from the Royal Air Force’s Tranche 2 production order. “Saudi Arabia is close to signing a contract,” says a Eurofighter programme official.
HeHeHe. 😀 Bit disappointed about the 72 but hey as long as they sign. Besides it says “at least 72”. 😎
Forgot to ask is this “internal politics” thing based on anything more except that one article saying the King opposes the Typhoon MoU?
Even though I’d like to see the EH101 chosen objectively MRH90 makes the most sense.
There have been no competition at all.
That’s why the ” “
Anyway, the main reason for buying some typhoon is that they can get rid of their tornado F3 for a good price.
I doubt that any Typhoon order will be small.
On what do you base this TMor and glitter? With a MoU signed, Chirac leaving empty-handed and Saudi Tornados at Warton right this moment I would have thought it is quite clear who won, but you may have sources indicating something else?
I personally would tend to agree with Sealordlawrence regarding the “competition”.
– Rafale, even Dassault is very discret about it. It seems that internal side are competiting between the EF2000 and the Rafale.
What do you mean? That there is an internal fight in Saudi-Arabia about who should get this contract?
@ Super Nimrod: The next to fall is Denmark imo. I personally think Norway will go Typhoon (better offset deals so far, “Eurothing” with Norwegian Labour government) and if Norway goes Typhoon Denmark might well leave too though here Gripen DK has good chances of snatching the order. 😎
Assuming a weight of 10t for Rafale (“10 t class” quote by Dassault) then Typhoon F2 is just 11.15% heavier. Whilst the EJ200 has at least 20% more power (with war setting 38% more, war setting is a life reducing software change which makes normal output to 69kN) . 😎
Let’s check the official sites.
SNECMA M88
Consommation spécifique avec PC 1,7 kg/daN.h
Consommation spécifique sans PC 0,8 kg/daN.hEurojet EJ200
At its maximum dry thrust of 60kN (or 13,500lbf) the EJ200’s SFC is in the order of 23g/kN.s. With reheat the engine delivers around 90-100kN (or 20,250-22,500lbf) of thrust with an SFC of some 49g/kN.s.
If you translate 23g/kN.s that make 0.83 kg/daN.h
and 49g/kN.s make 1.76 kg/daN.hBoth engines are as efficient (and the M88 a little bit more).
I was right
No, you’re not right, you’re just trying to fool me. 😎 The EJ200 site you quoted is not the official one. I’d believe a German Engineer who actually holds lectures in how to build engines/aircraft anyday over a amateur site.
Here is the official site: http://www.eurojet.de/default2.php?p=4&cid=6
Taking the worst quoted you’re right, taking the best you’re wrong:
sfc 0,756 kg/Nh
sfc AB: 1,692 kg/Nh
Taking the middle:
sfc: 0,792 kg/Nh EJ200 better
sfc AB: 1,728 kg/Nh M88 better
Also considering that EJ200 has a higher bypass ratio I sort of doubt that M88 is better at fuel consumption, especially as the SNECMA figures look “too clean”, i.e. I think they are rounded down e.g. from 1.7245 to 1.7
There is place for 16 more silos to reach 48 VLC, as much as the Horizon actualy (48 vlc silos).
But if you look at front of the existing silos, there is no place on T45, but a lot on Horizon.
Huh? T45 has 48 VLS cells and they could put another 24 in the middle. I think the picture is clear on that.
The CV90 is a swedish tank. So no offset there.
So you admit you were wrong saying R-R doesn’t have a part in JSF anymore [regarding STOVL work]
lol actually YES.
Under the agreement, Rolls-Royce will maintain its current lift system component responsibilities beyond System Development and Demonstration into production and sustainment. The work has the potential to bring billions of dollars in new production and spare parts sales to Rolls-Royce over the life of the program. Rolls-Royce produces the LiftFan, Three Bearing Swivel Module and Roll Posts as a subcontractor to Pratt & Whitney.

And about Congress, we will see.
Actually, RR is out of JSF (as well as GE) 😎
