That’s purely for the SDD phase i.e. that part of the contract that’s been awarded thus far ($1.7bn out of the $6.1bn total).
Yeah but aaren’ these 1.7 Billion Dollars, the manufacturing part of it?
Seems as if a large part of the work will be done in the UK and Italy:
MR. LAUX: The plan is to build initially the primary fuselage components and the main rotor blades in England. We’re going to build the dynamic components, including the bulk of the gear boxes, in Italy.

Work will be performed in Owego, N.Y. (31 percent); Amarillo, Texas (27 percent); Yeovil, United Kingdom (21 percent); Agusta, Cascina Costa, Italy (15 percent); Lynn, Mass (3 percent); Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. (1 percent); Grand Rapids, Mich. (1 percent); and Denton, Texas (1 percent), and is expected to be completed in September 2011. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured by a request for proposals; two firms were solicited and two offers were received.
Great news!
Now, the US101 is clearly the better helicopter, more range and payload, larger cabin. LM claims that 90% (!) of the contract value will go into the US economy, I think that is probably around the Sikorsky number too. (As the S92 for VXX got more US suppliers, because if they had taken the normal suppliers they would have probably only managed 50% US content.).
The EH101 (from which the US101) is derived has already around 150 sales and has proven itself in different air arms (including the RAF, JMSDF and RN.).
The blades of the US101 will be built in the UK in Yeovil.
And I have seen several ppl arguing that the EF2000 who performed that day was a full ton lighter than normal Eurofighter.
So they just flew with one wing or only half a forward fuselage? 🙂
Perhaps because Thales has been better at that game until now
MHHHHHH. Better than 4 companies from the whole of Europe?
140 km ? Never heard about such a breaktrought.
What’s so different than the OSF ?
Although no definitive ranges have been released an upper limit of 80nm has been hinted at, a more typical figure would be 30 to 50nm.
I think the AFM Eurofighter supplement gives the ranges as 140km, but I am not sure.
In Austria, the opponent was the mirage 2000.
Really? Still the Eurofighter won. 😉
Absolutely nothing is wrong with the Eurofighter. As far as I know the Eurofighter has a better FLIR/IRST system with the Pirate (range is said to be 140 km) against the OSF with a range of 80km. Okay range isn’t everything but it is one of the indicators. Also I wouldn’t say SPECTRA is way better than DASS, how do you want to know ? I do wonder why the Rafale doesn’t have a TRD? Is it not needed? If you look at exports, well the eurofighter is in the lead there with 18 compared to nil for the Rafale. So we’ll see what will happen in Singapore. 🙂
I have the same information, I heard somewhere that one was looking at its replacement through a UAV but it was unfunded till now (I think it was AFM.).
Happy Birthday! 🙂
