Are they holding an open day this year? Haven’t been in touch with anyone there for a while. Would be nice to play with my old Comet again.:)
Sadly, that date clashes with a car show I’m takeing my Escort to, though I’d only bother going if it were a big event or they were looking for help with Canopus. I’m not exactly an enthusiast, I just have an interest in old british jets.
What colour scheme does it wear? I thought ours were the only four left still flying in the UK (including the one at edinbrough).
It might be ours on detachment to Warton.
I’ve got pics of a similarly impressive model Victor also powered by a pair og jets.
The only thing that made it look like a model in the air was how it was being caught by gusts.
Well I have worked on various aircraft and have to say that the BAC 1-11 is one of the most impressive. A lot of thought has gone into it’s systems and it sure beats the hell out of any Boeing I’ve worked on!:)
I was thinking more from the point of view that it is a copyrighted picture. There is a ticky label on the back that reads:
Falcon Aviation Photos
I’ve got a nice pic of our three lined up together but I don’t think I’d be allowed to post it on here.
😀 That’s no fault of the aeroplane, that’s the fault of the operator!:)
The BAC 1-11 is almost as nice as my old Comet.:)
It’s still in service.;)
That doesn’t sound like a five minute job!:(
Cheers. 🙂
Vulcan APU – located in the wing behind the main U/C. I can’t remember which side but I was shown it’s location when being shown around the Bruntingthorpe Vulcan. It was built br Rover who despite there limited experience of APU’s decided to go against other manufacturers advice and instal it right in the firing line of the U/C. I don’t know for a fact but apparently they did tend to suffer in service due to this unfortunate location. These things don’t tend to like sucking up runway spray and all the little bits of grit and rubber etc… thrown up by the wheels.
Though as I’ve said, I’ve never worked on one and am not familiar with them so this may be complete dribble. But the location is correct.
Excellent!:D
What type?:)
Javelin! Get it under cover, there can’t be many left now is there?
Wow, there getting a sea hawk flying again? I’d love to see one of those back in the air. I’ve seen the one at Brunters close up and there’s not a lot of it there from what I can remember.
Any chance of a Javalin flying again?
Or even a Beufighter?
Hi Ant,
Not quite all three, one of them is now on display in a rather nice garden outside the entrance to an office complex in Farnborough. I think it was originaly one of farnboroughs aircraft that came over to Boscombe when Farnborough closed.
