    Stone:

Where does the info on the F-86ks USAF scheme comes from?? Were they shipped to Venezuela the same way??

I got the info from a book called “West German Military recks and Relics since 1956” It was published in 1990 and compiled by G.A. Hilteman. There is also a picture of one of the Sabres in the book, but I don’t have a scanner so can’t post it.

I know that Venezuela took delivery of several Sabres from Germany.
Venezuela on their turn suplied some of these to other South american countries.

Some sources state that 2 of them are still surviving in Venezuela. The 55-4866 and the 55-4913, but in my book there is a photo of 55-4866 derelict at Hato Airport!!

The Sabres on Curacou ,to my knowledge, were brand new and never used:eek:!!
The Luftwaffe only formed one unit with F-86K’s so of the 88 delivered only a few were used, the rest were used for spares or were sold on.

The 4 F-86K’s came from Germany and were probably going to Venezuela some time in the 60’s. But they were unloaded at Willemstad harbour and left behind for some reason.
In the 80’s they were burned by the airport firebrigade.

The planes had an USAF colour scheme.

    Serials:

There are 3 things that come to my mind that started me of getting a airplane nut….:D

First: Was a set of postcards given to me by an uncle of my dad when I was 4 years old. Those were pictures of memorable aviation moments.

Second: My granddad was a B-25 mechanic during WW2, serving with 320sq.
As a young boy his wartime stories made quite an impression on me.

Third: This was the thing what really got me going:dev2:: My granddad’s copy of Britains wonderfull airforce. The book was published in 1943 I think. I got it when I was 12 years old(1985). I still got it!!

As an aircraftspotter the VC-10 brings back some good memories.

Going to RAF Bruggen in the 90s to watch the Tornadoes, I always made sure I went on a thuesday, that was the day in the week you were sure to catch a VC-10.

Also I remember being bored by one at RAF Wildenrath. It was doing circuits for 1,5 hour.
That were a lot touch ‘n goes!! Taken in mind that I was there to see the last 19 & 92 sq F-4’s.

And then there was the sad sight of the derelict ones at RAF Abingdon when I was at a spottingtrip round the UK.

I considder myself a lucky man to have seen the bulk of the RAF ones alive!!

I also happen to be 17, and wouldn’t even think about Heavy Metal, as I have no wish to inflict perforated eardrums on myself.

Been there ,done that, with above result. :(Still a huge fan of realy heavy:diablo: metal.

With shoulderstraps it isn’t nessecary military. A lot of civy pilot seats have shoulder straps.

Don’t want to be picky John;), but the right spelling is:

As sure as I can be given that the plates located are written in English as are the mod references, and that she has been locked away for 20 years near Bath. The little paint left on is also looking as if its an RN scheme. There are a couple of photobucket links posted earlier with pictures. Any help gratefully received in pinning this one down. Somebody must have a memory of, or recall the movements associated with the Sea Hawk Preservation Society during the late 70’s and early 80’s.

    In hope, regards Sparky.

Still on the look out for cockpit fittings mainly rear bulkhead behind the seat for XE584 also require the 2 outer blast tubes.

The Dutch Royal Navy did aquire 34 Seahawks. They only used 22 of them.
The ones not used were used for spares recovery. After their service life in the Netherlands most of the planes were returned to the UK and some time later some of those ended up in Germany.

The paintscheme of Dutch Seahawks was basicly the same as the RN ones, and the stencils were also in english.

The log below is taken directly from my database.
The JP”S were stored at RAF Haltons “runway”, dont’t have any pictures.
There were several other airframes stored at the same spot or in the nearby hangers.
(Jaguars, Gnats, Whirwind, Hunter and other marks JP).

    Hope this helps.

In ’93 or ’94 I visited RAF Halton.
There were some 20 Mk 4’s stored waiting for their disposal..
Most went to the USA I think.

I will post the serials later.

Nope! Even de russians don’t make them that ugly:D.

Only the French could come up with something like that:diablo:.

It’s an Hurel-Dubois HD-34. About eight of the beasts were build.
