We are lucky to have a couple of late Mk Ansons around but oh to have a turretted early Mk rumbling above our heads!
I have this vision of a hand slipping on the throttle and it disappearing down that track at the speed of light! 😮 😮
Very saddened indeed at the news.
Always a treasured guest at ARC, I will miss the twinkling eyes and the amazing recall of memory he was blessed with. He also cut thru’ the chaff and explained technical matters simply.
In a 25 minute ‘pre-flight’ walk around IAC 161 with him, a couple of years ago, I learnt more about Spifires than I had gleaned in the last 25 years such was his deep knowledge learned at the coalface.
We will all miss him – a true English gentleman aviator.
I see the MAD boom has been airbrushed out :dev2:
FANTASTIC NEWS!
Now lets find a Viscout 700 series to park alongside it.

(Ex-Eagle Liverpool Ops)
Don’t know about the ownership. I believe it is based at a museum in Maryland.
I have merely been asked if I can float the question about the aircraft’s FAA service history on this forum – pun not intended.
MM
Hopefully it will be placed on static display and maybe even taxied around at one of the forthcoming shows.
Donuts anyone??
Glad to see you up and about Roobarb!!!

Sunday 3rd May 1998 saw what was effectively a ‘Diamond 16’ led by Rod Dean made up of 4 x formations of 4 Spitfires swarming over Bury St Edmunds prior to running in to Duxford. Shortage of qualified pilots on the Saturday meant only 13 flying IIRC.
The BBMF came out of the closet and made up the rear box thus enabling this fantastic sight to take place.
Very cold and VERY bumpy but a memorable occasion.

Nope
Come on chaps!
Roobarb you are a wag!
Mk 12
What were the dates of your colour photos of TE184?
And pray what power setting would the aviatrix be using, irrespective of altitude?
Hindsight is a wonderful attribute…..
The pity about the Varsity is that I suspect it was still recoverable to flying condition, even after the storm damage. I suppose it was sheer lack of funds that prevented that happening.
HF and A McV suggested that I may wish to throw my hat in the ring to occupy the front seat as they felt they were rapidly approaching the age where they ought to be handing over the reins to the next generation. I think this was a couple of months before the damage was incurred.
I truly hope the old dear is eventually given somewhere warm and dry to live before too long.
As an aside where did the ex-Farnborough Varsity end up? I think that was serviceable when the shut down checklist was completed for the last time?

What has happened to the PT Flight owned by Bob THompson.
I think the name was Bob Mitchell?
I think this subject came up a while back. Try a search
