I owe the realisation of my dreams to Ray, Mark and the OFMC. It was a wondeful privilege indeed to sit on his wingtip. Courteous and generous to a fault, with all his friends and employees, I still cannot take on board that he has signed his last Auth Sheet.
His words of encouragement and advice will ring in my ears for evermore and I will always picture the craggy grin under his twinkling eyes which complemented an ultra dry sense of humour.
Duxford has become an emptier place with his passing however, he would not wish that we grieve too long – such was the man. We must remember he would want us to get on with the task in hand and do just that – we owe it to him.
My sincere and heartfelt sympathies to his family.
Thank you Ray for everything.

Think it was based loosely on the early days of Gulf Aviation?
If it was funded by ‘external to the UK’ sources then I say welcome it with open arms. However the last thing Elly and her team need is competition in an increasingly difficult situation right now.
Looking at that picture of the Iraqi Heron it seems too much power was used on its last take off and the engines have rotated 180 degrees…..or have I missed something?
Oh to have a Balliol as a stablemate to the T9!
Can anyone point me to some handling notes/comments/write-ups on the Balliol? I would be interested to hear how QFIs regarded them as training machines.

I may well have strapped you in. Was a 10 AEF staff cadet around that time. Also worked weekends in the tower during that time as a glorified tea boy.

Moggy C.
What years would you have been visiting/flying at 10 AEF?
MM
Tester you beat me to it!
Please observe the wide streak of yellow that would appear down the back of my flying suit if it was suggested that I be the responsible pilot in the back of a 109 T-bird
I entirely agree with your views. A good, and varied, vintage/warbird type background and thorough pre-flight briefing is the clue here.

Maybe he should have been one of the ‘Faces From The Blue’!
Do you really want to scare young children and OAP’s?????
😮 😮 😮
……..and there were some Mossys operating from there also a Meteor??
With deep respect to a Scouse aviation nut SPIT. I was a Staff Cadet on the AEF from about ’61 til ’64 and worked weekends in the tower whilst at college after that. I suspect you must have been thinking pre-’60 as the only aircraft other than UAS/AEF Chippies were the Meteors operating at the Ty Croes(?) range out of Woodvale. I couldn’t swear to it however I think there were 2 x F8s and 1 x T7?
Interestingly enough I used to fly with one of the ex-THUM pilots after that in another life. Eric Williams was his name I think.

Would you care to expand on that statement old chap? 😡 😡 😡
Emails and paperwork starting to whizz around 😉
Isn’t that where they buried the unwanted Typhoons after the war?
MM. I’ve got a pic of a pilot carrying out his preflight. Would you like me to post?
Only if you never want to enter the Skunk Works again
Don’t give in! I am sure you will get there in the end
