Anyone with a valid opinion?
Or……..abolish the Air Force and have it revert to the Army Air Force………And you are right….in fact the Army had more and larger amphib landings in WW2 than the Marines, but……..for good or ill……….the services are waaay too entrenched now to change anything.
I cant see any new a/c being bought by the SAAF for the next few years at least. As has been pointed out the C-130s are in pretty decent shape, and no tankers are really needed as the JAS-39 fleet is so horribly underutilised. Major political reforms would be needed befor any new equipment purchases can be contemplated.
Big can of worms you’ve opened thobbes, get ready to be crucified. Personaly I completely agree with you, but the Marine Corp fans are going to go……..well……we shall see.
Russia has said no to the No-Fly zone, so its a non-starter.
I have a real problem with the US “involving” itself in Syrian affairs, to be quite honest……this is none of our business! As far as a “No-Fly” zone goes……that seems to me to be an act of war against a soverign State. At this stage I would love to see Assad ask Russia for assistance and have the Russians move an airborne division into Syria and maybe a squadron or two of fighters. Maybe the West would then get the message that it is really none of our business and butt out!
The theoretical increase in buget proposed here would have to be spread over all three services, and if the armed forces were to actually take a realistic look at their operations then the Navy’s strike fighters would have to go. Im sorry but its not so much a question of up front aquisition costs (yes, if they could get SEMs from France they would probably be fairly cheap) but the total cost of maintaing the capability . Remember, the Navy also has to replace pretty much its entire surface and submarine fleet and even with axing its fast jets it will not be able to replace them on a one for one basis.
What condition are the Thai AV-8S Matadors in?
I think the issue here is Argentina has not reduced its expectations to meet its financial or even political reality.
Spot on.
Considering Spain has put the “Príncipe de Asturias” up for sale. Which, country is likely to purchase the small STOVL Aircraft Carrier? (any ideas)
I could see India purchasing her. I understand they run ships up on the beach somewhere over there and then pay poor worker a pittance to cut them to tiny pieces.
Its an image of a Portugese A-7P at a NATO Tiger meet. I thought it was an interesting image cause I have never seen an A-7 with sidewinders anywhere but the cheek rails. But now that I think on it……I cant see any real issues with their carriage on the outer pylons. Had just never seen it befor.
